    Literal translations......

-Have you come home? As I'm walking in through the door. No it's not me its my twin, a hologram etc.
-Have you eaten yet? As I'm cooking, walking into/out of a restaurant/actually eating.
-Are you going out? As I'm going out/coming home.
-It's raining! When I can see it's raining.

I mean is it really worth wasting your time dignifying a response?

Stupid questions can best be answered by stupid answers/replies!

What I hate is Chinese asking me if I'm American/Russian. If they ask me that, my reply is: "Are you Japanese?"
While they could have just asked me which country I'm from.

Coming out of restaurant, (while they have been standing there for hours and can obviously see I just come out of another restaurant) trying to lure me into their restaurant. I'll reply "bao de yao tu le"

The best is when laowais try doing this back to the Chinese.
Go ahead, and try it on your neighbors:

When you see your neighbor coming back from the store, say this: Mai le dongxi ma?/买了东西吗? (Bought some stuff?)
Guaranteed they will look at you like you're crazy. Why is this laowai asking me if I just bought something?

My point is, we can't understand it. And we [unfortunately] can't participate! haha

Love that one can't wait to try it always getting asked are you going shoping as I am walking into the supermarket with my shopping bag.Usually I just say NO.That stumps them.

Oh you can drive a car while they are sitting in it. My response "Nope first time driving do you know where the brake is?"

That is what I actually do. I live in hutong and every time i meet a neighbor I do ask one of the exact same questions: Hui lai le ma? Mai donxi le ma? Ni chuqu ma?
And I find that in this way they seem to think: oh, the laowai cares about exactly the same stuff as we do...
