3 days, 1550km on 150ccm Jia Ling. My new record 680km on the first day. Only because I got lost at night in the middle of nowhere. I just love the emptiness of Inner Mongolia it's like on a moon. It was a first longer ride on my own. I was lucky with my zero knowledge about bikes. When it broke in the mountains on the border between Hebei and Inner Mongolia after just about one minute a passing by Chinese guy on motorcycle stopped to help me. It was just a spark plug. Just wanted to share the photos:

I didn't get to Xiling Gol, just to the lake below. This triangle of land below Xilin Gol is an amazing place.

    Hey filipu,

great you did it! Sorry we were no longer in the area on Mayday.

How about some more details? How was traffic (out of the city, in IM, etc). Did you have a spare spark plug at hand?

    Cheers! Fahni

Sure, do I get a level up with 150 posts?;)
The road straight north is a very good way to get fast to Inner Mongolia, not so many curves as on the most stunning roads but still its an enjoyable ride. About 7 hours to the border of province. Not to many cars. The only other bikers I've met during whole ride were in Bj. The roads in Inner Mongolia are straight and empty, you can make loads of km in short time, if you ride 90km/h you can do 90km in an hour. I liked most the triangle south from Xilin Gol. Empty until horizon. Really relaxing, and the fields are great for ride. It is not so easy to find a place for camping because sometimes its hundred km of fence along the road. If you find a side road that are usually not on maps its reallly nice ride, on the main roads sometimes its too boring.
I had the spark plug luckily. Someone told me they don't break to often but I should still have it.
Did you ride around or just camp? I camped first time alone and it was quite an experience after all these horror movies I watched as a child;)

    Let's try!

And how did you change the plug? Did you bring the right wrench?
We basically just went there the first day, then climbed the via ferrata there and returned a different route along the Baihe back home...

Looks like and excellent ride - thanks for posting!
    * Loved the panoramic photos - was this a camera setting? Post-shooting editing? Or some other technique?
    * The road west of Xinlin Gol is cool too (quite moon-like when you get past the amazing green grasslands).

Hey, there is an option in photoshop to make panoramas. I think its from version cs3 file>automate>photomerge. sometimes they come out amazing.
I want to go back to Inner Mongolia to see it green I'll try your place if I get a chance.

    Great riding at it's best.

    Glad it turned out good.

The sparky plug probably wasn't as tight as it should have been, if you were able to swap it with just a pair of pliers.

    Your lucky day I guess.

    Gra.

Hey, thanks, you might be right about the spark plug as the pliers were tiny and still worked.
