Yeah the Nigerian Honda 125 does not come with an electronic starter, it is only a kick starter, I was surprised.
The design of the CB125 is Honda’s, not sure to what level the unit is made in Nigeria? Simply being the same does not mean it is made in China, as much as that it is the same design. It may be only partly but not likely fully made in China?
The News Release does not claim that the units are made in Nigeria, but does lead one to believe that they are by claiming Honda Manufacturing (Nigeria) LTD is a production and sales subsidiary?
http://world.honda.com/news/2011/c11...ria/index.html
It also states
Production capacity : 150,000 units/year
So we cannot be sure…..but here is a Digital Fact Book for Honda, it can be searched and lists Nigeria with production of 23,107 motorcycles for 2010.
That link also shows that Honda's production operations in China produced 1,604,305 motorcycles in 2010. I checked that against chinamotorcycle.com its total, for the two Honda's Wuyang and Sunduro, 1,581,266 a difference of -23,039?
I wonder if that is a coincidence the 23,000 units could be knocked downs and counted twice by Honda and not by china's statisticians?
In 2010 Honda represented 5.95% of total production of Motorcycles in China.
YTD 2012 Honda represents 7.71% of total motorcycle production in China. Honda is taking a share of the total motorcycle production of China at a rate of roughly 0.88% per year from 2010 to YTD 2012.
Then consider total production YTD 2012 for Honda, 741,481
Annualized to a monthly export rate of 50,351units then compared to a production rate of 148,296 units monthly, then roughly 34% of the total motorcycle production of Honda motorcycles in China are exported, the remaining 66% is sold domestically.Last edited by MJH; 08-15-2012 at 05:46 AM.

08-15-2012, 06:52 AMThe service intervals for the Ace 125 sold in SA are 4000 km and the warranty is 2 years. This suggests that they have confidence in their product and even if it is partially made in China, their QC is obviously up to scratch.

They are basically the same and both made by Honda…..so what does a comparable Honda branded CB125 sell for in China? I bet that the workers at Sunduro and Wuyang factories earn more then those in the Nigerian factory. Considering the gross sales of the CB125 in Nigeria were $230,000 in 2010, that is not a lot of revenue to run a factory on, then consider all the other associated costs? Too many players spoil the game and in that the economics go down the drain.
How much do the factories get as a tax deduction for exporting per unit and then how much do rural residents in china get for buying a motorcycle?
I believe that these are actually major purchases to most involved and also provided by a major employer as well.Last edited by MJH; 08-15-2012 at 03:46 PM.

Does Sunduro have its own brand and a separate factory? I know that Wuyang does but they are actually shrinking the Wuyang production down, that being the independent Wuyang ( Guangzhou Motors Group Company) as it has fallen from the 11th largest in 2010 at 940,748 units to the 40th largest in 2012. Guangzhou Motors Group Company currently annualized production estimate for 2012 would be 108,132 a whopping 89% decrease in production since 2010.
