I came back here recently after a long illness and I was disgusted to see the violent and racist posts that had appeared and were left in place. I can be anti-establishment myself, sometimes tolerant of taboo and other borderline behaviours as I am not very well socialised and have experienced much of the hypocrisy and evil that balances the freedom and self-expression of parts of our world - thus I understand the wish to act without restraint - but there is a line drawn that even I understand in such free action. The line is not drawn from conservative fear or by religious or governmental dictate. Nor is it moral except in some definition. It is functional, simply practical, and based around what separate, diverse and different humans can tolerate as energy between themselves while holding a stable position from which to communicate - while allowing some change, flexibility and growth. For both the common good and individual benefit. 'Future radicalism' and 'anonymous' style hacking and trolling has a place in this world. I understand that and encourage it. However I do not think blatant threats and personal attacks reflect well on that movement at all. Racism on this forum is also very inappropriate. I understand that some forums associated with the 'anon' movement may encourage 'anything goes', including extreme hate and racism posts, but this here is just a motorcycle forum. Sick bastards that piss on the symbolism of the 'anonymous' Guy Fawkes mask will be deleted. We cannot live under fear of threat of DOS attacks or even at personal hack risks because some insane and immature soul wants to destroy the tolerance that exists here. So I think, and I would like to see the views of others expressed here.

    Much ado about nothing!

What, now you'll torment yourself for a couple weeks and immerse yourself in painful introspection and contemplation?

No, I'll not torment myself at all, but there is a small concern that if he is a radical troll from the 'anon' hacker group that use the name Guy Fawkes and a GF mask as their symbol, he would have hacking skills enough to threaten beyond the foul mouth remarks he made. Probably just a wannabe but you never know.

If he were Anon he would have done something. He didn't, he wasn't. "Don't feed the trolls" Glad to see you're back, Jape. Hopefully the next time someone starts that kind of stupidity admin will shut it down quick.

The internet is a brilliant crucible of free speech, even here in the filtered kingdom, and I'm all for those who want to push the limits of free expression in ways that conform with our responsibilities as ethical beings living in communities.

That said, I've seen too many excellent forums melt down into ignominy and dysfunction and ultimately flames because a few trolls failed to live up to their community responsibilities. I would hate to see that happen in MyChinaMoto, which I cherish above all else as a responsible motorcyclists' mutual support community. There was very little chance that this Guy Fawkes interloper had any intention of contributing usefully to the conversation, even as many of us tried to take him seriously after his first few posts. I feel honored to have a place in this forum, to soak up so much brilliant expertise and insight, and to have the privilege of sharing a morsel or two of my own here and there.

Creating and maintaining healthy communities takes work, and it's a whole lot easier if everyone in that community shows a big heart and a positive spirit of contribution and mutual support and learning. We all have our weak moments. I made -- and instantly regretted -- a snippy post to braillce last week and was relieved when he took my comment without rancor. Let's all cut each other the necessary slack, and do our best to make this forum the brilliant motorcyclists' tavern that it's been since CrazyCarl had the great grace to set it up and invite us in.

Jape! Hot damn, f*cking insanely good to see you posting again, and overjoyed that you've got the gremlins at bay. Very much envying you the coming antipodean summer, and hope you've got that Kinlon ripping things up and scaring the shit out of the koalas and kangaroos. Looking forward to many more years of erudite, insightful, helpful, literate and devilishly sardonic posts from you.

Great to have you back, even if it was a troll that flushed you out!

    cheers

Then start to be concerned about why I chose to make Richard Sorge my Internet alter ego. Maybe I will, in Sorge's spy way, among other things, get a hold of your bank account numbers and shag female partners of all MCM members.

Yep.. that Guyfawkes was not in a happy place... That sort appear to be rare on this site and we could have alerted the little cobber to his mi demeanour, given him the chance to mend his ways and then take action accordingly. However; and I think the general consensus is "WHY SHOULD WE?" Well I think because if we don't make the effort then we could be accused of being as intolerant as him. However, I don't believe it was intolerance rather than a rather unhappy person which caused his little outbreak.
By the way..... I was one of the people who reported him...
