Hello dear motorbike loving people,
After a well deserved discouraging from mychinamoto.com crowd to not ride without a chinece driving licence I did not have a choice but go and do it anyway. So I did. Started of in Qiujing, buying a 125cc Sanlg made in 2007 and producing 8Kw (10 horses) of power. Paid 2600rmb and got the number plates and all the documents it needs to be riden on Chinese roads. After a good week of riding, doing anything from 50 to 200km a day I finally ran into troubles with the army people, after discovering a military base in the mountains. I had to quickly sell the bike and get on with public transport and hitchhiking. I was glad that I sold the bike, even so it broke my heart, as after I did, the police road blocks and check posts were so frequent, that I would have been busted sooner or later. They were so frequent because of the election I was told.
Even though it was very scary at times passing through police posts and I would not do it again (or recommend it to anybody) without the licence, Im glad I went. It was a truly spiritual journey and an inspiration to get on the road again when I have the licence and do it on a bigger scale, like Kunming to Urumuqi next spring.
Now Im of to research the forum threads about how to get a driving license in Shanghai.Previous bikes:
Jawa 350 1971; Triumph Tiger 900 1999; Yamaha XT600 1995; Honda CX450 1983; Suzuki DRZ-E 400 1998; Sanlg 125cc 2007.
Forever bicycle now.

hey bakas
no doubt somebody will be along to give you a good telling off soon
really have nothing to say about you riding without a licence
i am sure we have all done it at some stage
as the good book says" let he who is without sin cast the first stone" or summit like that
anyway no big deal to get a licence as long as you have the right visa
and the ability to turn off your logic circuits long enough to pass the test
bummer you had to sell your bike
buses suck and buses in china must suck like the cold hard vacuum of space
good luck
