What really matters or matters more is the cost of the goods sold, I can only assume that the valuation is wholesale values. The margins represent how efficient the factory uses its resources.

A better measure would be an operating ratio, the cost of the operations/net sales. That value across all the companies would demonstrate an average and who is most efficient.

I believe that the industries unit profit margins are under 2%, that's the margin on cost of goods to wholesale. I do not believe any of them are profitable operations, they likely break even and or incur operating losses?

Jianshe and Qingqi posted tens of millions in operating losses.

I wonder if these manufacturers realize the crisis they are in? Biggest bright spots in that list are Sundiro Honda at No.4 and, to a lesser degree, Wuyang Honda at No. 20, which was roughly flat. Both are top of the heap in terms of export unit average value. Gee, China, maybe Japanese-style brandbuilding and genuine customer-focused marketing do actually count for something!

I find it hard to believe that a company like ZXMCO #29 has a an average unit sales value of $1,023.00


Here is their Alibaba page they advertise their version of the Honda CBR300 with a 250 engine.

They are asking at most $980.00 each?


Their best offering being priced less then the reported average value of their sales per unit does not work out for me.

This is China's biggest challenge. But the barriers and penalties to cutting corners, copying and otherwise cheating seem to be so low, there is little incentive to improve. It's still an authoritarian/totalitarian system where there is zero accountability, at least in the state sector.

From the perspective of the customer who needs a cost-effective means of transportation - better creepy than crappy. I can live with that if something looks like someone else's design, than to look at (and use it) flawed "original design" - aesthetically and mechanically. I think that many Chinese manufacturers are aware of this fact. Plus, as I understand it, in Chinese culture, an imitation of something good has no negative meaning as in Western culture.

I do not see any problem with copies of old designs, but that design is not that old its a 2009 model.


I read that every country has different laws on protecting ornamental designs, the most respectful are those that honor the laws of the countries of origin or supersede them.


I prefer to respect the perspective of the people at the origin of the design and their rights, because otherwise why would any one bother creating new designs…if they just get copied. They deserve the right to recover the investment they make in capital

Honda is very smart that basic design, is behind the 2013 CB500F, it has a retail price in the USA of $5,499.00 and it has a 500cc twin, it shares some with the CBR300 but it is just a more substantial offering.



What creeps me out is that the Chinese version is that they are mass produced, it will head into a gauntlet of controversy from potential lawsuits in certain markets for design patent violations to simply seeing it show up through multiple direct competitors from multiple Chinese manufacturing sources.


The best version of these will end up competing with version from other Chinese manufactures, those attempting to sell them in any markets faced with being eventually undercut in the market by another offering of the same version directly shipped to you for less. OHC 223cc version to OHV 200cc versions and lot of exaggerations about performances.


These copies are not coming out of one source, everybody and their brother is going to be selling them, with lots of small component variations and associated costs, as well as variations in engines. The best unknown and the others selling right next to them or only a internet search away.


They all look the same but certain ones would be better and in that likely cost the most and in that likely be undercut by another…vicious cycle and they just keep repeating the behavior.


From the consumers position you really do not know what you are getting…from the intermediary perspective that being those selling them, they are likely to go bankrupt trying to sell them in a anyone can get them market, where cheapest rules, plus they are copies of a Honda design.
