The tank things isn't a problem. The problems are lazy careless dealer crews.
I had seen before that the X5 has two taps and so I asked the dealer to get me a second one. I assembled it myself because I don't want to wait for ages that they get it done. Drill a correct sized hole where is the marker at the tank, fit the tap with two bolts and fit on the 2 fuel line with with a T piece to the carburetor.

Thanks ShuBen - Great review! Can you give us some pictures of how you did this?

Checked with the PuDong dealer and they said were all out of X5's right now but would be getting a few more at the end of the month...seems they don't even have a sample / test bike anymore.

For drilling a hole for the second tap you cant make things wrong.
The thread for the bolts are existing already and the hole position is marked.
The drill diameter you will get from the ceramic filter.

Yes, you are correct. BMW does not build motorcycles of the same quality as it did up to the 1990s.

Just went by the Shineray shop in Pudong today - they got a couple of new X5's in stock. Still has only the one color - white - available. Noticed the same problems still on the bike (did a quick test ride).
    1) Front break cable not correctly placed - pinched between the fork and the break disc
    2) Something is off with the gears - very hard to find Neutral at all when riding or stopped.
    3) On one of the bikes the Gas cap / (top of Tank) was only half on...looks like serious production defect.

Other problem I noticed was that the pegs on this bike were VERY high - am gonna have to start joining my wife's yoga class to have any chance of getting feet on those comfortably....or maybe am just getting too old.

    C-Sam:
the neutral finding problem I had in the beginning too, but with the time it disappeared. I guess the precision is not very high, so it needs grinding in.
The front brake cable is a DIY job.
From my point of view the pegs are mounted OK. I haven't a problem with it. Check your legs .... maybe long as a Flamingo?

Flamingo??? I MAY be taller than the average Ayi, but not much more than that...
Did your bike come with both a kick start AND electric start?
    What about the seat height?
They said they can adjust the seat up to help with the pegs being too close.
