OK Chirs
we keep my eye our around here . there is a big bike meet at Changping just north of Beijing over the weekend 12th/13th next month will keep a eye out for it . I only ride with Chinese guys and all the riders dont leave the bike wear it is not in veiw we stop for food and if we cant see the bike as we eat we move on.... when we stop at Hotels if the hotel dont have 24 hours gaurds we move on !!!
I am sorry happy i dont live in a big city my bike is parked outside my flat no locks on and boy would it be hard for someone to nick it people have to go through 2- 24hr gaurds gates to get to my bike and at the first gate all vans are checked with the 2nd gate NO vans are allowed in without a pass and then the van is checked on the way out and all the gaurds know my bike ! and all gate have CCTV as well so its not like someone could give the gaurd a few $ to look the other way . But we all think it cant happen to me .... so sorry to hear about your bike its just piss me of when it happens ..
Hope we can find it but you need to post on 1 of the chinese forum as well

Hi Chris
sorry need to say post the km/miles as well because sometime if you start looking for the vin number people could get pissed off but i qiuck look or ask the person how many km/miles it has done will make it easy to see if it could be your bike"Arguing on the Internet is like running in the Special Olympics, even if you win you're still retarded"

09-29-2013, 06:28 AMHi guys,
Thanks for all the feedback.
When I bought the bike, I was told I would get a plate and blue book. I did indeed get them a few days later - yet they didn't match. At the time, it was my very first bike and I was pretty accustom to seeing non-plated cars and bikes everywhere. The bike was stolen within 3 month of when I got it; it was the BaoAn at Suncity apartments. They got fired; I got my bike back. They unsuccessfully attempted to hotwire the bike. So, the computer was locked. I had to call BMW-Germany to get it reactivated, that included providing my passport info, the VIN, and talked with people at BMW in both Germany and in Beijing. BMW-Germany gave BMW-Beijing the required information to reactivate the computer. At that time, the bike was (at least in BMW's eyes) mine.
All has been fine for the last 1.5 years. Now, some guys in a white van (from talking with people around the area) took the bike. I certainly would like to have it recovered - even my helmet and gloves are in the box. I understand the arguments stated above; and with that said, my next bike will be directly bought through an authorized dealer. The ability to drive anywhere outside of Beijing with zero concern is too big a benefit.
In reality, anyone's bike could have been stolen from The Place. It is to everyone's interest for the bike thieves to be caught. Or to at least remind people that locking the steering column and also using a wheel lock doesn't ensure anything.
