Maybe it's just being left out since it's kind of redundant saying that a motorcycle engine is for motorcycle use.

So you need to have under 7th character always M… but optional
    163FML Forced air for F and L is 200cc ( M is used)
Then 170MM where M is water cooled and M is 250cc, but M is not their as above? ( M is not used)

The use of M consistently in the 7th character place is or could be an older convention, the later engines do not adhere to it.

I read it again unsigned is water cooled, sorry about that so the M still represent Motorcycle, so in cases were there are only two characters alpha(after the cylinder and bore) then it is water cooled.

So then....if in a computer program the code would have to insert a null character where the Chinese should have placed a "W", other wise it would not read the characters consistently.

    should be YG170 MM
    should be YG163FML

    1 - One cylinder
    3 - 39mm bore diamater
    9
    F - Air colled
    M - For motorcycle use
    B - 50cc

A quick Google confirms this and that it's also a 4 stroke. There are 3 varients of this engine shown here.

Hello: I've acquired a number of engines but cannot decipher who made them or what they are. Can anybody help? The numbers are:
    TZH152FMH 60607091
    IP54FM1 51214377
    LC1P391MA DC009900
    LC152FMI FZ132484
    152FMH 08064827

It's possible that some with a prefix of 1 could be I or vice versa. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks very much for your reply: Do you have any idea of which manufacturers use the prefixes, "TZH", "IP" and "LC"?
