Hi, just wondered if not having a bulb in my headlight would stop all other lights working on my bike?!

Or is there other issues causing this?

It shouldn't affect other lights. As far as I know they normally all have their own closed circuit, it's not like those old fashioned Christmas tree lights where you turn one bulb out and all lights go out.

It might be mass (=earth) related.

I was thinking maybe this as there is a loose earth wire behind the headlight.....was going to solder it to a new connector and see if that helps.

Random question but how many wires go from each battery terminal? I have one on both. The bike is kick started.

If no electric starter, normally one each.
The red as POS to all systems, the black as NEG connected with frame or engine mount.
    Sounds u traced the problem.

Still sounds like an earth problem to me.
Are you sure the loose cable was an earth? If so, that you soldered it to real earth?

Only thing you can do in these cases is bring in some logical checking.
Check the main POS and NEG cables on the battery (no corrosion)
Check if the black earth cables connection on the engine or frame is clean and not corroded

Then move over to the effected area, and slowly work your way through all connectors.
Disconnect and connect them one-by-one (incl. the bulb fitting of each lighting bulb), then in small groups and see the results on all lights.
If you do this systemetacally, you will most likely find the culprit.
After that, you can check it is the bulb, the fitting, the conectors or a cable problem.

Is it possible to create a separate wiring loom for the brake light?

Thinking power from battery to both brake switches and a cable spliced together for the rear brake light..... Would that work?
