I have an intermittent start fault that has developed.
This is how the problem manifested itself.
Two days ago I washed the bike as and dried normal (weather in UK is cold at the moment)
On this occasion I did not start the engine as I usually would do
As I had a new pair of Gerbing Heated gloves for Christmas, thought I would connect the power leads to battery ready for my return to work
I took the seat off and alarm went off I turned alarm off using key fob
Then decided not to fit the wiring harness for the gloves, just in case disconnecting the battery caused a problem for the alarm - thought it best that I refer to bike alarm manual for correct battery disconnection process.
Replaced the seat – no changes made
Got the bike out yesterday to go for a ride, turned off alarm
Tried to start… nothing no clicks, no phtttt sound… nada, nothing…
I tried several times arming and disarming the alarm in case removing the seat had casued a problem for the alarm and it had not reset itself correctly.
Still no luck, it just would not make any starting sound at all… lights all worked, full battery even when lights on and I tried start they did not dime.
I was convinced the alarm had caused the problem.
Decided to put the bike back in the garage and then contact the dealer when they open again, then thought I will give it one more try….
Was click the start button many times in succession, eventually a minor phtttt sound from starter (not backfiring) pressed again a couple of feeble attempts by starter motor and the third click the starter motor turned and the bike started.

I tried again several times, on the first and second press of starter button nothing then on third press starter would engage and bike starts.

I have doused the controls with WD40 just in case there was moisture in the controls…. But I will contact the dealer when they re-open to investigate under warranty, was just wondering if anyone else with the 650NK, TK or TR have had same problem

I think that you may be putting your battery under strain with alarms and other electronic gadgets. Give it a long charge or your bike a long run. Short rides and battery discharge could easy cause a state in which the battery becomes overly drained and may not have enough charge to start the bike.

It was the poor protection from water ingress... Once WD40 dispersed the water all was good... BTW I now use ACF-50 to protect the bike and electrics/switches etc.... Excellent product.
