Recently my brother in law has bough a scooter to get to and from work, he took it to the bike mechanic and the mechanics basically turned round to him and said the engines seized and its gonna cost £1000 to fix.

How long would an engine actually take to seize? He's had the scooter about 3 weeks and what can they do about it to get their money back as its not worth the £1000 to fix? thanks

With out oil, an engine can seize in a matter of minutes. If something breaks inside the engine, it can be instantly. If it's run repeatedly, hot it can take a little longer.

It begins to seize in Several seconds! No boundary lube to begin with so seizing starts on start up pretty much

I agree, but I believe that this was a used engine with a little residue in the block and on the cylinder. I guess either way, it's terminal.

Are you from NZ? I once assumed a truck driver was from Australia and he spent several minutes explaining the difference to me.
