01-20-2014, 09:27 AMHey guys,
Any of you knows a good driving school in Beijing?
Also, I've been told that the written text for motorcycle driving license can only be taken in Chinese, is this right?
Thanks!

You'll never find a good driving school in China, as simply put Chinese people have no f**king idea how to drive.
You can take the multiple choice test in English, some of the locals will tell you that you can't because in their opinion it wouldn't be in English, although that is bs.

01-21-2014, 03:02 AMAs ZMC888 already replied, only in Chinese is bs! You can do it in English and several other languages.
Some other questions for you are:
90+ days remaining on your current visa? If not, you'll have to wait before you can apply anyway!

01-21-2014, 07:33 AMThanks for your reply guys!
I'm trying to contact this school, let's see what they say (http://www.laoshanjiaxiao.com/registration.html).
By the way, I'm not really looking forward to learn how to drive, just how to pass the test (and something which doesn't cost me an arm).
I already know how to drive a bike, I used to drive some off-road bike back in the time. I might need to practice a coupe of hours but no more (not at all if I need to take the exam on an automatic bike ...).
@barry I don't have a foreign motorcycle license, only car.
I'm also going to get a 180 days student visa apparently, is that fine?
Cheers!

01-22-2014, 09:32 AMAlright so I did contact the school, and they told me once again that the written test needs to be done in Chinese ...
I'm a bit confused, guys, any of you did it in Beijing and can tell me somewhere to go?
Thanks...

If you already have a foreign driving license with a motorcycle endorsement, you need to write only one exam, available in English.
If you do not have a foreign endorsement, you need to take the full course (e.g., Laoshan). Within the full course, there are two written exams - the one noted above, and another that is currently only in Chinese. This second, Chinese-only, written exam was started with the new "system" implemented on January 1, 2013.

01-22-2014, 01:11 PMAlright it makes sense ...
Well, it sounds like I have no other choice than take a driving license in my home country ...
Thanks.

01-23-2014, 08:44 PMHi there,
I took the motorcycle test at Laoshan in 2010. Around the same time a thebeijinger.com-user nicknamed SetthaLee wrote a guide on the whole process and I (nicknamed remxiao) chipped in my experience. I hope it's ok to post the URL here:
http://www.thebeijinger.com/forum/20...plates-beijing
I have not yet heard about the second written exam in Chinese. Does any of you guys know, what kind of written exam it is? I mean, is it also a multiple-choice test on the computer? Do you have to hand-write Chinese? Do you have to use the keyboard to write Chinese? Will they bring up a translation? When? Is this test only in Beijing or other cities (e.g. Shanghai)?
Ahhhh, China, you gotta love it.
Btw, as far as I remember, the remaining visa time needed to be more than 6 months, when I signed up.
Cheers, xiaofeiShineray X2

Thanks for the link, xiaofei, although I think that most of the information in that TBJ thread (SetthaLee) is now largely out-of-date. The new January 1, 2013 Traffic Code changed a lot of what is required for a person to acquire a motorcycle driving license. And, of course, government keeps changing the rules.
There is an updated thread on TBJ which discusses the new rules, specific to Beijing:
http://www.thebeijinger.com/forum/20...versus-fiction
Essentially, if you have an overseas driving license WITH a motorcycle endorsement, the rules remain the same (i.e., the computer test, in several languages).
If, however, you do NOT already have an endorsement, there are lots of new rules (the computer test, in multiple languages; additional, new Chinese-only tests; classroom sessions; road practice/tests; and so on).
Again, the thread on TBJ is specific to Beijing.
