Like I said already technically speaking under national law motorcycles are allowed on expressways and thanks for cutting these bits out as it makes a good portable persuasion pamphlet. Yes sometimes you will get on to the expressways, so yes keep trying. However in many areas, they have banned motorcycles from the expressway in an 'absolutely prohibited' state of mind with signs up and staff and management totally opposed to motorcycles being able to use them. Probably you can sneak around the barrier, but it is worry about how they will react if you do that.

I returned from a 2 month hiatus (trip) from Ningbo - Northern Thailand.
Based out of Chiang Rai for a majority of that time. Once again as in my experience last year had a fabulous time in Thailand. The people, attitudes, abilities, capabilities, etiquette, manners, behaviours, interactions and riding - to be far superior and user friendly experience than what I experience in PRC.
I rode both directions (Ningbo-Boten border) using the Espressway. The ride down managed to complete the journey without interruption nor interference. Once I got on the Expressway I did not want to leave it, in case I might not be able to re-enter without difficulty. This strategy worked, though it meant I rode, and rode, and rode some more. I 'power' slept for 30-45 mins. twice on the trip down. This meant I rode nearly 48 hours non-stop or interruption except for fuel and the two periods I knew my brain was slept deprived.
The ride back was faster in some ways.
I was able to ride from Boten Border crossing all the way to the area of Ningbo. Stayed overnight in Jing Hong. Left approx 10am on 2nd March... arrived home near Ningbo at 7am on 4th March. Had I not got intercepted on the Zhejiang section of the G60 and eventually escorted off the Expressway (twice), my ETA was meant to have been home by 8pm on 3rd March. I did try to plead my case to stay on the Expressway but was denied on both occassions - even a call made to to the head of the Traffic Highway Police for permission to continue onward - both times I was denied. I did point out that contrary to opinion that the PRC National law does NOT strictly forbid or 'ban' motorcycles from Expressway use, I was told that while that might be the case, that Zhejiang has it's own law (which I stated than must be a bylaw - I also asked politely 'was Zhejiang not part of China and therefore if the National Law did not apply or that Zhejiang law trumped National Law set by Beijing. At the end of the day I wasted hours debating logic with Logic Free Zone people. Frustrating as all hell. I should have simply got back on my bike and ridden on.
What this suggests is that we need to become a collective voice on this issue, attempt to garner support from vested interest groups who share a common interest e,g. HD, HOG, BMW Motorrad, other motorcycle groups, organisations and such like. We need to become vocale on this issue moving forward, time to forcefully remove this discrimination... from a type of dis-o-bedience... to politicking any which way!
On a side note...
I started using OSMAnd+ (GPS) on an Android phone/device and I have downloaded/installed many maps including the one for PRC. Found the OSMAnd+ app to be really useful and functional, plus the maps are based on OpenStreetMaps data - therefore the OSMAnd maps are updated fairly frequently based on users feedback and input.
I was surprised and relieved to discover that OSMAnd maps are working in PRC without any offset issues... as has been experienced with other GPS mapping options.
I did discover however that some of the roads on the OSMAnd PRC map are incomplete, which does have an impact on routing choices etc.
For navigating this trip I used:
GarminXT on a WinMO device.
MapAsia on a WinMO device
OSMAnd+ on a Android device (real GPS with offline map functionality and routing)
Sygic Pro on a Android device (real GPS with offline and map functionality and routing but also no PRC maps - unfortunately)
City Maps 2 Go on a Android device (offline map functionality but no routing ability)
GT-Rider maps when in Northern Thailand.Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist

05-18-2015, 12:25 PMI am in Guangdong, Zhongshan and recently 2 guys on Benelli 600's were caught on the highway near Jangmen. They were caught by camera and the police were waiting for them.
They won the case because bikes are allowed on that highway. I was interested in the case because I have the same bike and color, and looking for some road to open it up once in awhile.
