The last pic of the beautiful tarmac road kind of reminds me of something I was thinking as we were joyfully winding along . We have to endure a lot of crap to get a licence in China and another bunch of crap to get a bike registered. But once you are out riding on these roads there are no radar guns , no cops in cars chasing you. There is basically no enforcement at all. There is no air ambulance either or Search and Rescue, so if you choose to ride loose that is up to you and you better be prepared to accept the consequences.

I decided I liked this system.
Prepare my bike as I see fit , ride as fast as I like and take what is coming to me if I fuck up.

On the subject of coppers , we were stopped at a few checkpoints and waved through more. They were always friendly , a quick look at the papers and off you go.

In Muli I had the feeling it was just a bit of posturing by a small town official and I never really thought they would make us ride out of town in the dark.

Clean bike is a happy bike and more importantly you can see what is about to break on a clean bike. Score so far:
Murray's throttle cable hanging by a thread. Replaced twice .
Zhu's exhaust eaten by chain .. took it off and left it in an alley, just blanked off the pipe to the left muffler.
oil cooler mounts cracked.. repaired with #8 wire.
spokes as ever broken... to be fair the bike was weighed at 300kg fully loaded.
Do not get your laundry done here.

Murray looks like he has had about enough tar fumes . That road was about as new as it gets . Once we got past the road gang we road on virgin tarmac still steaming.

Bit out of order here as the constant billion hotel was in Kunming and the tar gang was, errr before that lets say.

I'm not selling it so it is best you talk to the guy directly. But this thing is a real orphan anywhere in the world and even more so in China.

Sorry about the pics guys the photobucket has exceeded its limit until I pay them or it will reset at the end of the month, just have to sort that out.
