#1 CIMA 2014 ChongQing Report
11-19-2014, 05:29 AM
This report is mainly a photo-log of what was a busy and well attended CIMA show over the four days 2014-11-14 through to 2014-11-17. Locals far outnumbered the foreigners (both expats and overseas visitors) present by a factor of at least 1000 to 1 if not more.
The show was spread out through only two buildings of the mega Chongqing Exhibition centre made up of many many buildings. Between the two buildings used by CIMA were outside stands from various manufacturers/distributors both big and small. To the right of the two CIMA buildings were some other stands and numerous test tracks for different brands e.g. Shineray, CFMoto to name but a few.
There were some obvious copies of Foreign branded model MC's e.g. Honda PCX, and Yamaha clones.
Many of the big MC stands had female models, and it was like a feeding frenzy with so many people attempting to take photos of them, or with them - it was almost comical if it wasn't so ridiculous. While I certainly appreciated the female models looks and presence, I for the most part ignored them and took photos of MC's next to them, despite the crowds etc. It was just such a turn off the way people carried on, so I unfortunately refrained purposely from taking photos of the female models.
I meet an Aussie father and son MC motorcross/enduro shop that had attended the show for the very first time on the Friday (14th). However they were departing the Saturday morning (15th), having been disappointed by the small number of accessory and part suppliers/manufacturers present. I informed them of the Guangzhou MC pasrts and accessories show on the same weekend, but the pair had already changed their tickets, so a little late for them to alter plans again. CIMA organiser David McMullan did say that unfortunately due to the change of timing for this years CIMA event, a number of manufacturers weren't in attendance for this years show.
Happened to met a South African motorcycle dealer of some twenty years standing (carries a few brands including Kymco Taiwan), attending for the first time, looking to buy entry level scooters and small displacement MC's direct. We recommended he steer towards the JV brands e.g. Jianshe, Haojue etc. to save stress and anxiety levels as he has already been carrying a few other Ch!nese brands and has had enough experiences dealing with the usual plethora of issues etc.
I'll let the 146 photos do the rest of the talking, and where appropriate I'll add text.

CFMoto
One of the better stands, and certainly IMO one of the best presented Ch!nese displays. The KTM stand was beside CFMoto for obvious reasons. The star of the CFMoto display was the CF650G Police escort bike which took centre stage. Little birdie told me that about mid 2015, the CF650G will be available in civilian clothing. The CF650TR will be retained. The much talked about CF650MT adventure style bike, apparently is to be released last quarter of 2015. Time will tell.
Update: CFMoto Marketing Director advises that the 650MT ETA is delayed until mid 2016, due to quality improvement - "continuous development on [implementing] higher quality."

Note the long bars on the CF650G, which are somewhat hidden with the additional Police paraphernalia

Kawasaki
The crowds in the Kawasaki display were one of the biggest - certainly while I was at the display (I went there several times over the few days I attended the event). At one point the display staff had to close entry to control the numbers. Fortunately there were the usual barriers in place to facilitate entry and exit to the display. It seems that the main draw on the Kawasaki stand, were the Versys, both 1000cc & 650cc models. Both models will be available for broad release in the first half of 2015. The Thailand manufactured 650 had a MSRP of 元83,500 complete with ABS and new clothing. The Japanese manufactured Versys 1000 ABS has a retail price of 元172,500. There were a range of other models, mainly road orientated rides which I didn't spend a lot of time looking at.
All the bikes at the Kawasaki display - one could sit on, which was not the same for all the displays it has to be said.
