#1 Realistic route for SH to London?03-11-2015, 03:50 PM
I highly doubt I can make the trip this year again, but perhaps this will allow me to better plan for next year.
i stole this map from the boys at http://monkeykings.jimdo.com.
Would the blue route be "doable"?
thanks
Z

I was looking at a similar route through the stans but it seems a carnet is required for Iran. That puts me off, which is a shame because Iran looks like an amazing place to ride.

I learned from Iranian friends that especially German are very warmly welcomed in Iran and also the authorities have no issues.
Unfortunately for our American friends here it seem to be much more problematic. (In fact I heared that the normal Iranian people have also no prejudices, but its a political subject)
I remember we have a Iranian members (from Teheran) here ... so .... can we get a first hand statement please?SWM RS500R, R1200GS LC

Hopefully theres no issues for Australians to pass through.
And also how does one get a Chinese Visa without a departing airfare? Are ferries acceptable?

alright so i arrived in shanghai a couple of days and hopefully give this a red hot go.
not sure how far i'll get but i'll try do this as legally as possible.
whats the deal with purchasing a used bike on a tourist visa?
bill of sale? some kind of blue folder?
i'm happy to travel further inland if the laws are more laxed.
applying for a temporary licence. Currently have a IDP, HK moto licence and AUstralian licence. thats probably the best i can do based on my situation.

03-31-2016, 03:12 AMIm leaving on a similar trip in about 2 weeks.
Iran, definitely a carnet needed and its a shame. Like Carl said, Iran is beautiful and amazing but the cost of a carnet is too high and what would happen if ones bike gets stolen? I guess no bike and no deposit
Its very difficult to get Russian visa, you need to get a travel agency involved and things like this. Maybe easier for you but for Poles its very hard. So im opting for a ferry through Caspian sea
