    For me a scrambler would be a single, basically a standard with some dual sport capabilities.
    Honda has the perfect engine for a scrambler in their 650 single,

    MJH: The photo u sent shows a real classic scrambler as it should be.

    Anyway thats the style we built when I was teenager 30 years ago.

    Notice that it retained parts of the donor, which was a NX650. The skid plate, exhaust pipes and muffler. It came out really well, IMO.
    The NX650 makes such a good donner that the trend toward converting them has them in short supply, they were only imported for two year, resale used prices are relatively high, when one comes around.
    Shineray has the baby brother of that engine in its 400. They should not be shy about using it in different designs.

    study the frame on the XY400GY and see if it looks like the NX650 frame.
