Different Carb On QM200GY?

Anyone thought about putting a different carburetor on a Qingqi QM200GY/Qlink XF200 for more power or just a better type of carb. Most carbs are not that expensive from what I have seen and I just wonder if it would make a big improvement in power.

Have a look at this thread. Poster "Rainer" was going to try a Molkt carb on his, but we've heard nothing more about it.

Due to the method of fixing, with one of those plug-in rubber adapters, it won't be easy to find an ordinary slide carb to fit (I could be wrong though). The distance between studs is the problem. They're 65 mm apart. You would need a carb with that pitch and an insulator/distance piece and gaskets to match.

The port size is 28 mm, reasonable to accommodate the Mikuni BS28 mm carb. The 31 mm BS31 CV carb carb from the Suzuki DR200 would fit but would benefit from the inlet port opening up to match and also the rubber adapter from the same bike. I'm informed that earlier DR200's had slide carbs but they were changed for CV carbs for emission purposes. Be interesting to see what sort of carb and distance piece they had.

Another problem with fitting a slide carb would be the throttle cable. Our system is totally different from that and would need special throttle cable made up.

If we could find a slide carb it needn't be any bigger than the 28 mm we have now for an improvement in performance. A 28 mm one would probably be OK. The reason being that the CV carbs always have to be oversized to account for the restriction that the throttle butterfly and slide components present to the air intake. Slide carbs have no such obstacles and can be a little smaller than the OEM CV carbs (2 or 3 mm they reckon).

Thanks for the info! I am going to look at what type of 28mm slide carbs there are out there and maybe think about getting one to try out.

The DR200 years 1986 t0 1988 used a strange 28 mm flat-slide carb with a similar plug-in fitting and even the same sort of throttle cable assembly. It was called a TM28 and was also used on the XR200 and others. Looks like this:



The trouble is that they're getting rare and cost something in the region of $280.

If you google "mikuni tm28" there's quite a lot of info on them, some people swapping them for the VM26, quite a famous performance carb I read a lot about. It looks like this and it's also a plug-in fitting, rather than a flange fitting, which I wrongly assumed was normal on slide carbs.... The only thing is that you'll need a throttle cable. They're also a lot cheaper (around $140):

I first found out if Suzuki used a different carb on a site that sells spares for Jap bikes. This has lots of spares lists and microfiches:

Consolidated Motor Spares in Holland.

You select the year and bike you're looking into and this gives you the OEM part number. I then put that into Google and google images.

The VM26 I've seen mentioned in a forum as a substitute on older DR200's and it's a very popular carburettor for lots of bikes. Just put VM26 into Google images and it comes up.
