With personal electronics that's used you'll probably be OK. What they are Nazis over is new cell-phones and smaller consumer electronics like laptops, as it doesn't have the Chinese govt spyware built in.

OP, if you read the threads (start to finish) I linked - you would have found several sentences related to used/second hand motorcycles specifically mentioned in posts, however the sentences are altogether brief. Why?

FWIW Permanent importation of a used motorcycle into the mainland are officially banned.

Meaning if you want to import your R6 (or whatever), used motorcycle into PRC that is more than six months to a year old, and/or has >1km on the speedo (or official documentation that might allude to the fact that the MC speedo showing 0km/miles doesn't match the originating countries records etc [think: speedo wind-back/replacement versus governmental data-sharing or full history/disclosure documentation]) then officially you're unlikely to get approval to start the importation process. Unofficially there are and is a well established network importing used/stolen/black market MC's into the middle kingdo0m. I'm not aware of any dispensation for importing a used 'track bike'. But TIC... if you're a big fish with serious Guanxi Gang then anything is possible...

At the end of the day it'll likely be less aggravating, frustrating, stressful and expensive to buy a track-bike here and be prepared to start over - IMHO.

As already alluded to, cages enjoy more status and as such dominate the racing scene/tracks (to say nothing of the Expressways, Highways, roads, lanes, avenues and available parking etc).

AFAIK locals logic dictates that...only peasants ride moto's (here)...one rung up above pedestrians and cyclists - 'nuff said.

    YMMV.

I looked at a few ways to do this and you have to consider time vs money in the long run.

As many said you can't import your bike it would be better just to buy a used R6 here and then ship in all your parts in.

Many of the Hong Kong guys bring in their motorcycles on a short term competition (no street driving) basis. Many of the Aprilia and Ducati guys do it you can ask the dealer directly in Hong Kong. However you have to export you bike within a certain time frame. just the import fee for the HK agents is around 1k USD.

Then there is just buying a bike in China and then reselling it when you move back out. This is also a consideration. IE used Duc Pag 170k RMB and then resell it around 120k RMB in 2 years... just an my example.

Then there is going to the official track teams and joining and paying fees and the bike.

Either way they all seemed to add up to tens of thousands of USD when I did this calculation.

    I just bought a new bike ...

Thank for all the info guy. Id never ride on the road again and Id never buy anew bike, its just too expensive. I paid 10,000nzd for my current track bike inc all the goodies. Im not going to pay much more than that. Im considering other countries now as this seems way too difficult and expensive. For a hobby that I love but only get to do maybe 10 days a year here in NZ if Im lucky, its not worth or even justifiable to spend more cash.

Ive got 2 interviews for positions in Shanghai this weekend

    Ill keep looking into it

    Thanks guys

Shanghai is better as I reckon you have some good chances of getting on Tianma, and the rich idiots will be itching to get on the F1 circuit. Goldenport in Beijing will be jammed up by rich kids in Ferraris.

Has anyone got a direct contact email address for ANYONE that runs track days or the like in shanghia area? . If you could pm me with it that would be appreciated. Surely there are others out there that do this?

Honestly it's unlikely you'd receive a reply to an email even if you could successfully transmit one, most locals speak, read and write CHS, they might not understand your email or else can't be bothered expending the energy required to reply to a stranger.

To really get things moving maybe you need to use Wechat - the all encompassing social messaging platform that the local population have integrated into daily life it is almost ridiculously impressive.
You're likely to find various clubs and groups associated with the tracks etc that have a presence on Wechat.
The catch is though to make the most of the platform one really needs to be able to read and write CHS (simplified Ch!nese).

Wechat is made by Tencent, the same people that make QQ. The software has complete rights to take control of every service and and functionality of your phone should you decide to install it. Essentially some would call it Malware. Some people (mostly foreigners) buy a cheap smart phone without a sim just to run it. On the other hand many people report no problem with it.
