    I've been having a problem with my Qlink XF200 and wanted to see if anybody else has noticed this also. It smells like something is burning on the bike when I stop. Sometimes when I'm stopped at a light I see smoke wind is coming up behind me. I can smell it through the bottom of my helmet also. I first thought it was the new exhaust I put on so I had my GF follow me on her scooter. She didn't notice anything unusual. Tonight, it happened again so let it run in the garage and sniffed around. I think that it's the rubber spacers between the fins on the right side. Are they supposed to be there? They are on forchetto's. You can see them here at the bottom of the page;

    I don't have any on the left side, however. I took them out and they were hot and smelly. I didn't get a chance to go out again but I will tomorrow to see if there is any change. Has anybody else had this problem?

    My bike has those little rubber deals between the fins also...not sure what they are for but the only way they would start to burn is if your motor is over heating. I had a burning smell also, when I put my P&P exhaust pipe on my bike it smelled like something was burning the first few times I rode it. It has since gone away and I just figured it was the muffler getting hot and burning off all the oils and junk that got in there during the manufracturing process.

    Those rubber inserts are put there to damp "ringing" noises from the cylinder fins. Apparently they behave like tuning forks at certain revs and make noises. They have been used for years and last a lifetime, so I don't think it's those.
    They're obviously specified to withstand the temperatures that the cylinder/head are likely to reach and more, so it's a strange thing to be happening. Is the smell like burning rubber? or more acrid, like burnt oil. Check to see there are no leaks from the top of the engine that could be causing the smoke/smell. Two of the head studs are oilways and are sealed by acorn nuts with bronze washers. You might have a small leak in those, not enough to drip anywhere but sufficient to cause the smell. One of the oilways is inside the camshaft housing, but the other (bottom right in the image) is outside.

    If you still have the SAI (secondary air injection) gubbins on it, what can and does happen, is that the one-way reed valve fails and exhaust gases at high temperature go up the air hose that supplies cold air to the SAI and it starts to burn and perish. Feel the hose after a run, it shouldn't be too hot, after all it only carries fresh cold air in normal circumstances. The reed valve is there to allow cold air in only one direction, towards the exhaust pipe, and stop hot gasses going the wrong way.

    Not sure which type of SAI you have, but in the following picture it'll be the hose mentioned at the top right hand side.

    I don't have a lot of miles on it yet as it just started getting warm here. The smell is different sometimes but mostly smells like burning leaves. Maybe I still have some of the shipping oil on the motor (if there was some) or one of those numerous stickers come off and lodged in a warm spot. I'll check out the top acorns. After that I will wash it well, take it for a ride, and check the SAI hose. Thanks guys.
