Just a foot note to the last post - the pictures of the Chinese plated SUV on the right (wrong) side of the road was taken in Thailand about an hour or so from Chiang Khong.
As shown in the last 4 photos in post #25 above the SUV had been part of a convoy of vehicles all with Chinese plates. The SUV driven by a Chinese male veered onto the incorrect side of the road round the bend, hitting a Thai pick-up/ute head on.
By the time me and the Doc came across the scene the occupants from the Thai pick-up/ute had already been removed by Ambulance. The extent of the damage to the pick-up/ute windscreen suggested that the occupants in the front of the pick-up/ute likely hit the windscreen (unlikely seatbelts worn). The injuries were probably more significant hence the removal and evacuation of the pick-up occupants by the first attending Ambulance crew.
There were 4 occupants in the Chinese plated SUV, 2 male front occupants and 2 female back seat occupants (aged in their 20's). The front seat occupants were saved from injury by the safety belts and deployed air-bags. Meanwhile the 2 rear seat passengers, hadn't worn safety-belts and both sustained significant facial lacerations - all requiring surgical treatment. Had the two females worn safety-belts they'd have walked away from the crash without injury as did the front seat occupants.
We stopped and the Doc assisted both females using well stocked first aid kits that were travelling with the convoy. We waited until the second Ambulance arrived, and once the Doc completed his handover to the attending Nurse we both continued on with our journey.Last edited by prince666; 12-26-2015 at 03:54 AM.

Thanks for the update. I was riding my bicycle around the big lake here in Ningbo and was passed by 6 BMW bikes thought he might beeb among them. Caught up to a chinese driving a BMW 1200,,must be nice but he wasnt with the same group.
Anyway im stuck here for another four weeks then I go to guilin to settle stuff there and then Sanya. To put stuff there. Ultimately I would like to get to north thailand but it will be mid to late February. When do you leave that area?

You will love Hainan I stayed 12 months in Wuzhishan and done nearly every road the island had to throw at me with a load of dirt tracks as well, in that time I travelled 2 times down to Thailand on the bike which in its sell was a fantastic ride. Here is a link to a RR that I didn't complete but should give you a good view of the lay of the land so to speak.
