#1 Cleaning the chain, what to use?02-20-2016, 04:04 AM
Hi everyone,
When I lived in the States, I used kerosene to clean my motorcycle chains. I've been to several gas stations in Beijing and none of them sell kerosene or even know where to get any. What do you use and where do you buy it?
Thanks!

From Bikebandit.com
"I use a mild soap and a brush to scrub off any dirt or excess grease build up. While you can use a wire brush on a non-sealed chain, be sure to use a much softer brush on a chain with o-rings. Wipe away the dirt and grease with a cloth and let the chain dry. To help dry out the nooks and crannies of the chain faster, you can use some WD-40 (that's what it's made to do; the WD stands for "water displacement.") Some people use only WD-40 to lube their chains, but that's a very bad idea. You can buy WD-40 on Taobao.
One tip you may already know: Clean and lube the chain when the chain is really warm from a ride. The gunk comes off easier and the new lube thins out and it makes it easier for the lube to get inside the rollers."

Thanks, man! Hey, I replied to your pm about the cbf190r, did you receive it? It didn't show up in my sent folder, so I'm not sure if my pm's are working or not...

Thanks ShuBen for the taobao links... I've been resisting having to buy specific chain cleaner as it is silly expensive for what it is... but I may just eat the cost and stop worrying about it.
humanbeing,
How to I buy diesel fuel? I've heard from several people, though I haven't tried myself, that the gas stations refuse to pump into a gas container. Of course, I only need a liter or so at a time to clean my chain... maybe they would make an exception?

Just washed my bike from a dirt ride today and just LUBE the chain with Motorex Off-road full synthetic before i used to use Motul but have found the Motorex better .... so I can recommend like ShuBen Motorex is good stuff price in Thailand is 680 THB that's about 135 RMB so the price on Taobao is respectable.
