04-29-2016, 04:23 PMI recently bought a LIFAN LF 250 B and I'm really enjoying the ride but it runs out of steam at around 90kpm/55mph. I've checked all the mechanical so my only option is gearing.
Standard the bike comes with 16/45 sprocket set up and what I'm trying to do is perhaps go 17 or 18 on the front sprocket but I'm not sure about back sprocket or where to find the sprockets for front and rear that fit.
Help is much appreciated and if there is an earlier thread on this please direct me to it.
Thanks for the help

04-30-2016, 02:19 AMI've been trying to find out what parts of the Virago if any work for the lifan. I've had bike mechanics (who I can tell you right now hate the chinese bike) tell me that the pitch angles could be wrong and therefore cause more damage than help. It's starting to seem like the lifan in Australia is basically, if it breaks then bad luck.
Any help at this point would be awesome

1. Measure w/ caliper http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/262411043124
2. Compares "it" to XV250 in JT [Swap "3 items to 520" seems works http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/showthread.php?2207 ]
3. If don't matches [not likely...] , contact JT http://www.jtsprockets.com/contact for the correct # of 530 sprockets w/ ur measerments...

Owning chinese bike in western country means u need do some maintenance work by ur self. Most mechanic can't think out of the box even we willing to pay the hour rate...

04-30-2016, 02:37 PMHave done a crap load of internet searching most of the afternoon and I found this on a UK or Spanish I think, website and basically it's saying the LIFAN, which is called a Royal, has the same pitch chain as the LIFAN LF 250 B.
Drive Chaine 520
for motorcycle type Yamaha Virago 250
Compatibilities (Brand/Model):
SUMCO: Mohicano MH250 (LF250-B)
LIFAN: Royal 250 (LF250-B)
LIFAN: Motor LF2V49FMM
ZONGSHEN: Motor ZS2V49FMM
YAMAHA: Motor Virago 250cc V-Engine
What do you guys think. Here's a link to the site

Your Lifan is a copy of a Yamaha XV250 V-star.
Here are your options.

here is a forum dedicated to the XV250

that took two minutes

05-02-2016, 12:01 AMThank you for what seems like a very snappy and agro answer MJH. I appreciate the help. I already knew about JT Sprockets and the article which is based on the Virago, not V-star.
The original question was to find out if the Virago Sprockets were a direct fit or not. So with this in mind, you can tell me for sure that the virago sprockets are a direct replacement ?
That is all I wanted to know. They look very similar and I was hoping that someone who had done this to their LIFAN 250 might help.
Also this bike is no longer imported to Australia, so parts and info on what works is non existent :(

Your Lifan is a copy of the Yamaha XV250, which is also called the Virgo 250 and is also called a V-Star 250.
Here is the problem the top speed of the Yamaha is 80 mph with a stock 16/45 sprockets. The Lifan copy should be closer to that, Lifan claims 71 mph as its top speed.
So you are recording a top speed of 56mph, I would have to wonder why that is.
Adding a tooth to the front sprocket would increase your top speed to 59.47, decreasing the rear as well to 44 would offer 60.8 as a result, going to 17/43 would result in 62.16 mph.
Your Lifan uses the same sprockets as the Yamaha.

Choke on all the time.
Valve in/ex within limits?
Lifan "530 config" steals some power.
