#1 Well, I rode on the Great Wall, too06-11-2016, 07:29 AM
Just wanted to share that, being inspired by billeuze and his thread here: http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...the-great-wall
We found nearly the same place to mount the Wall. (although, looking at the pictures, it seems we found a different spot than him)
Here's my write-up below about my friend Gordon (incidentally this was his first time to see the Great Wall at all) and me making the trip from Beijing.
We heard rumors of a place where one could ride onto the Wall itself. we got an early start out of Beijing and made it to Hebei Province by 10am.
Then we found the road that takes us to the "secret path."
The "secret path" was a bit muddy in places.
But the scenery was pleasant.
We made it!
Turns out it wasn't so "secret" afterall...
But a trip to the old Wall (unrestored) is always a pleasant one.
After a rough morning of motorcycles and hiking, we made for the tiny nearby village and had lunch.
Me pondering the "menu," literally written on the back of a cigarette carton. (Lunch was delicious...)

I want to remind everyone in Beijing that if you want to come ride, let me know! I guess I could post up here more often, but I never got much interest in posted rides, so I kinda gave up on them. PM me and add my wechat... I usually get out every weekend, or every other weekend...

Great pictures good job on the route to the wall on street tyres.
Here is a Google Earth snap shot IMO off Blleuze (top pin) and your location when pictures was taken.

Prince, thanks for the comment... Intriguing that you pulled the metadata from the pics and posted them to a map! I'll review it later when I'm in front of a computer.
As for taking the route on street tires, it actually wasn't too bad... I bet anyone could get their bike through without too much trouble. Street tires really don't do well when you're faced with a long, steep incline or continuously muddy conditions... But this particular track of road had neither. Lots of avoidable ruts and a few muddy bits, but all in all a very satisfying bit with wonderful scenery along the way...

The wall is in pretty rough condition outside of the tourist areas. Well, you got to see the "real" great wall. The easy way too, by motorcycle. When the wife and I came to Beijing, to see the real wall we hiked out the wall until we felt as if we would die. Can't wait to make it to Beijing to ride. I am thinking about heading down and just staying in a tent on random farmers farms.

06-14-2016, 01:25 AMDoesn't one ever get a little bored of creating arguments over a forum. Seems like every post I read has the same usual people trying to have a dig at each other. What's been said before has been said, everyone should get over it because life is a bit more important that just arguing the t*ss of no real argument. nuff said

06-20-2016, 05:54 AMWell done man,
Seeing your pictures has inspired me to go out and do the same.
Since your stories, i've now got 2 good rides to do.. the caves, and this wall trip.
I don't want to rope you in to do either of them again, i'm sure you don't want to do them twice. Although if you are up for the wall trip again, or if anyone else is up for it. Let me know.
[not this weekend or next though....have to let my finger heal a bit]
