    Hey all,

I'm a brit currently living in Henan and looking to buy my first motor vehicle of any kind.

Been a keen cyclist for the last 4 years but I think age is telling me its time to ease up on that and go motorised, but with absolutely no prior knowledge...here I am armed with dozens of dumb questions for you all.

    So... where are the questions?

Guess you should start with getting the license. Once you got that then you can decide on the style of bike you want and your budget.

Why quit cycling and ride a motor?

My 2c, cycle around town, cycle out of town, and go really nice places that are just too far away by motorcycle. Keep slim and healthy.

Motor vehicles are a quick way to get fat and unhealthy. Also expensive, and then you need all the licenses and insurance. If you don't have those you'll probably be OK.....UNTIL you are in an accident, then you'll become Laowei ATM.

Cycle slow and painful? By a better bicycle!

ZMC888 makes a fair point about Bicycle riding, and I have some good news if you stick to Bicycle ......

You are free to run reds lights you are free to cross a road without looking or stopping and when you do get hit by a car/motorbike you get a free lift to the Hospital with a free check up all paid by the poor guy in his car/bike who tried to get out of your way and tried to warn you with his very loud horn all this don't matter in Chinese Traffic law the small bike is in the right.

    TIC and welcome to China.

P.S. should not be chances with Lorry/Buses as these guy don't have good brakes and won't stop to which in this case you will be DEAD.

I love cycling but, I'm maybe showing my age and recently had a lot of issues with my knees.

After a summer of cycling 200+ km a week, I was reduced to public transport and it really limited my adventures. Now I'm back on the bike after a 10 month rest but feeling less than stellar at times. So, I want a motorbike for those long adventures and hopefully I can still have the occasional short trip on the bicycle.
