Hi there - first I apologise for having posted this twice but I'm completely new on this forum and couldn't find a new post/thread link before this :( So I'm wondering if someone could give me some advice : I'm a complete newbie with the bikes and still trying to get my dammed licence here in Shanghai !(I just wrote about my experience on the thread regarding the licence in Shanghai). However I am staying positive and hoping to ride to Tibet around Sept 2018. I therefore will be looking to buy a bike (Dual Sports.. ?) fairly soon and do LOTS of trips and practice before my big trip. I would therefore appreciate it if anyone can give me their thoughts on the Suzuki Vstrom 650, KTM 690 and the SWM RS650r ? It seems there is a big price difference between the KTM690 and the SWM RS650r with the Suzuki coming in somewhere in between the 2. As a complete novice I would love to get the thoughts of anyone with experience and knowledge of these bikes and where to buy or try them with a view to riding in Tibet and doing lots of runs such as Shanghai - Huangshan etc. Many thanks - Richard

light weight adventure/touring bikes - high price- kawasaki 300x, Cheap- Honda190x Fight hawk Yamaha YBR 125/250
enduro- high price SWM sr 300/500/650 r cheap Shineray xy250gy X2 or QM 200gy
middle weight adv bikes in China- high price Suzuki DL650 V-Strom, great if you don't mind paying 40% more than the rest of the world for this bike... cheaper price- Shineray xy400gy x5, ZongShen RX3 or RX4. Many on here go for the Jialing JH600.. There is the Loncin DS8 (with BMW 650GS engine) if you're willing to wait(not released yet)
Street bikes expensive- KTM 390 Duke Cheap- Loncin 300R (Peppy, I've ridden this) NK150/400/650- CF Moto

My two pence. Cue recommendation for the CFMoto 650 MT below..;)

You never have too much power?
Comes down to your right hand and the rider. IMO.
The CFmoto 650 MT is a good bike just fit a set of 80/20 or 50/50 tyres.
Then you will be all good to go with a start list price of about 42.000 RMB.

... And then is there still the MG500 which seems yo be selling quite good too.
Price between 35k for standard version and 39k for ADV version.
Engine comes as I know from Loncin and is a Honda CB500 clone.
From what I saw in reality the built quality is really OK.

Finally Benelli TRK502 for about 45k, but bit heavy and IMO passive sitting position

I would plan for the worst. It sounds like you want to go out far and wide and do some trips. Then suggest you plan for when you break down in the middle of no where and have limited resources. For that I would get a smaller cc, local brand and stay cheap. If it breaks down, a need for local parts, tools that can fix it and or even be able to just leave it by the road until the morning and not cry about it being stolen ...

Hi Hok and Shuben, - thanks for the advice. I'll be checking out the MG500 and yeah Hok makes perfect sense to plan for 'what's probably gonna happen as opposed to what might happen' !
