Living in Shanghai and owning a motorcycle is slightly untenable. If I move to another place in China, which do you guys suggest in order to get regular dirt riding(to improve/learn) and somewhere with mountains/trails. I'm considering enrolling in a small town university for Chinese lessons then I can buy and register bikes and will be close to nature.
. I've been over much of China and have a fair idea. I think kangding in Sichuan would be ace. It's isolated and has ingesting Tibetan culture plus is surrounded by 5,000 m+ mountains.

It looks like Beijing is awesome.. With the mountains to the north. I just think plating is not so convenient there.

    Any thoughts?

    Consider Ya'an Sichuan province.
Nice size town, with everything you can wish for around you.
Rode the G318 many times and goes through kangding area you are thinking about to stay.

Yes, I went to Ya'an on the trip in 2007. Bigger town and chilled out Only staayed one night. I had noticed that this town has a large university for study.

There are lots of places in Sichuan and Yunnan that would be on the shortlist for me. The only thing I liked about Guangdong was year round riding. I wouldn't do Beijing because it's too cold, and the pollution can be brutal. You need to find a balance of city size, access to good riding, legal registration, length of riding season, air quality, etc. It's not easy to find the perfect place if you need to generate income, otherwise, it would be really easy to call a lot of places home.

Yeah, Sichuan is an awesome place. Its landform is rich. There is the plain, as well as mountains. What's more, the culture is splendid there.
