    Scottro,

Jim Bryant is your man for those bikes. I rode his excellent BMW conversion CJ's when I was there. He frequents this message board. Check out his work at bmwsidecar.com. He probably has his new workshop all up and running by now. I saw the shell of it getting a nice epoxy floor finish when I was there in June.

sniff. . .sniff. . . I dropped my wife off at the airport this morning so she can begin another trip back to the homeland. Feeling sad and lonely already. Wish I could have joined her so I can get more China Moto-ing in!

    Cheers,

    Dan K.

    Scottro,

Welcome to MCM! Member "Jimbosidecar" Jim Bryant, in Beijing, is the mac daddy at modifying and converting CJ's. "Shanghaifingers", who owns a CJ shop in Shanghai, is also real serious about CJ's. Either of them could get you going in the right direction.

    Where you hailing from?

I do miss riding in China....the Himalayans are a dreamland of riding.

Some of the mountains are burned into my visual cortex.

Look like it's time for us to go split some wood!

Yeah, most anybody can put a disc front brake on a CJ. You'll lose the cool reverse levers though, and with a m/c sitting on the bars you'll lose a lot of the vintage look. We sell a cast aluminum spoked M5 wheel that with the drum brake stops almost as well as a disc conversion. I'd avoid the Earles type forks unless you were planning on the Dakar Rally. And even then, I would NOT use the Chinese Earles, but rather buy and modify a BMW Earles to fit.

    Jim
