I rec'd my electronic edition of Adventure Motorcycling and Dual Sport News the other day. Just found time to open it up and I see a three-page review of the little Lifan. I haven't even read it yet, but I did a quick copy of the three pages to share with the group.

I saved them in Microsoft .XPS format. You should be able to view it in Internet Explorer or Firefox.

Adventure Motorcycling and Dual Sport News is an excellent electronic magazine, the gist of which is apparent by the name. I've been a subscriber for years, and since they switched from printed format to electornic format (PDF) the price is so inexpensive there is no reason not to subscribe. Check them out at www.dualsportnews.com. Just US$3.95 a year.

    Cheers,

    Dan,

Funny you should put that up! I contacted the editor of the DSN and asked if I could extract those three pages from the PDF they send out. I never heard back!

Anyway, I'm glad you put it up. It's short but the images are pretty good and at least shows the bike doing some real work on North American soil.

Ummmm, Errrrrr, yeah, uh. . .

I guess I really should have asked permission. I can remove the file to which the post links if you like Carl. I guess I am pushing the "fair use" copyright envelope way too much.

I guess the important thing is to be sure credit is given where due. Maybe mention the authors name and add a link to the magazine where people can subscribe if they want. No big deal.

Thanks for putting it up though! I think people should know about any exposure these bikes get in Norte Americano press.

I updated my original post to point to DSR's web page. :)

Much thanks Dan! I think the general rule is, if someone wants the content to be public then they'll publish it on the web where folks can link to it. If you can link to it, then it's likely not so bad to re-use the material elsewhere as long as proper credit is given.

If material is not published to the public, like only in print, then in general things like copies and scans of the article shouldn't be posted unless there some kind of consent. Quotes of an article should be okay though, just so long as the entire article itself isn't being ripped off and mis-represented.

I actually had another case like this yesterday. CycleWorld did a "Quick Ride" on the Johnny Pag FX/3 which I'd like to put it on MCM but it's not available online yet.

This doesn't have to be some sort of hard-fast rule or anything (YMMV) but I'm just describing my general understanding of responsible usage of other people's material.
