In January 2006, Highland Group AB, together with the Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Louyang Northern Enterprises Co. Ltd., started a joint manufacturing
company – Louija Highland Motors Co. Ltd., at Louyang, China.
Highland Group owns 29% of the shares in this company. The remaining 71% of shares are owned by a company within the state-owned China South Group. This group employs around a quarter of a million people, and is thus almost as large as General Motors Worldwide.
The China South Group specialises in the automotive sector, with assets including three car factories and three motorcycle factories, and is the owner of a number of supplier factories. The aim of the China South Group is to achieve the leading position in heavy motorcycles in China.
