I have a Kinlon SM200 and am attempting to undertake a sprocket conversion in order to give it more legs on the road. Basically reducing the teeth on rear. I have read all the forums on similar mods, the R/T 200 has a different rear sprocket set-up so modifications to the R/T Kinlon wont assist in this occasion.
The SM200 OEM rear sprocket tappers out dramatically from its bolt points to the chain pickup points on the edge. The centre of the sprocket sits hard against the circlip as designed, and then to allow the chain to run straight the design has tapered the sprocket from centre out to the edge by a whopping 11 odd mm’s. All the aftermarket sprockets seem to be flat with no tapper (as you would expect), that leaves 11mm of spacing to make up so that the sprocket sits where it needs to for the chain and allow the circlip/spring cushion to sit tight. 11mm of spacing is a hell of allot and most of the machinists charge a small fortune ($600 AUD) for a custom made shim spacer.
Lucky for those with R/T the rear sprocket is actually relatively flat so the space to make up is less then 2mm i believe, therefore washers and shims work nicely. SM not so much so.
Has anyone else done sprocket change on Super Motard variety and how did you get around the tapered sprocket issue? Is there a supplier in Aus you used?
Love to hear how others have overcome the issue.

Join http://www.supermotoaus.com/search.php?searchid=230473 and PM member 'Muzzard', he says he was associated with the original importer to Aus back in 2007 and has had a few, he also says to contact him for bits. I have never spoken with him but worth a try.

10-11-2012, 05:12 AMHi JR-ACT,
How did you go with changing the gearing on your SM200 Kinlon? I have a RT200, on which gearing up is easy, as Honda CD250 rear sprockets fit.I recently purchased an SM200, though, and as you noted, the dished sprocket is unlike any other I've seen. So, did you have any success in changing either the front or rear sprocket? Thanks for your feedback,
Regards,
XXX
P.S. I am near Sydney, NSW
