Technically, Victories are quite decent bikes. But they are not for the meek and mild ... they are heavy and they are powerful. Not a good starter bike for the MSF course.
745 Lbs / 338 Kg dry weight is ridiculous and pointless for motorcyle.

Where are the days when people where happy with an air-cooled Japanese 550cc-750cc twin? Does every motorcycle these days have to be some lifestyle choice?

I guess there are still many choices of "real" bikes available if you want one, specially outside of China.
Who are we to judge others who want to make those "life style choices"?

Each to his/her own. However, my wallet probably won't open up until I can buy this and legally plate it.

Any rumors about Triumph making its way across both the Atlantic and Pacific to bless China's shores with its deafening awesomeness?

I've been hearing the same thing ... that Triumph is due this year and, also, built in Thailand. Someone mentioned a target of 90K for a Bonnie.

Hmmmm ... with these new brands/options appearing, I guess the demand for the limited-supply first-tier city plates will be increasing. Better invest in a few more (yeah, that's my story & I'm stickin' to it)

I'm sure they are mostly built in the UK. Although some parts are made in Thailand.

That might not all be the case .
A part of there model range is already assembled in Thailand, other models are coming in smaller or larger asemblies to their UK Hinkley factory.
With the reduced tax agreement between Thailand and various other Asian countries, they can only grow their Thai factories in the coming years.
Considering that Triumph sold some 50k motorcycles in 2011, they seem to have capacity enough in this part of the world.

    Background:
Triumph Motorcycles (Thailand) Limited are a 100% UK owned company that currently operate 3 factories in Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate, Chonburi.
Triumph's first factory in Thailand was opened in May 2002 and was established for the manufacture of motorcycle components including Frames, Fuel Tanks, Header Systems, Swinging Arms, Engine Covers and Chrome Plated Parts.
A second factory was opened in 2006 where a wet painting facility and assembly line have been established.
A third factory, opened in 2007 includes high pressure diecasting and machining.
The company now employs approximately 800 staff in Thailand.

    Products or Services
Production of motorcycle components and assembly of motorcycles for export markets. Processes include; Aluminium & Steel welding, CNC Machining, Laser Cutting, Polishing, Chrome Plating, Powder Coating, Wet Painting and Assembly.

    Capacity
In September 2008, Triumph announced that they were expanding their Thailand factory to increase capacity to over 130,000 motorcycles.

Just how much or how much of their bikes are made in Thailand is surely a Triumph internal matter, as of now there are three Thai factories and two in Hinkley. Obviously sooner or later Hinkley will be more of a design hub.

I wonder why they didn't decide to manufacture in China?

I expect MotoKai will post up about Triumph and its imminent arrival in China -- indeed via Thailand. He's been in touch with people involved in the project, and was told that the Thailand-made Triumphs may enjoy lower import duties than UK-built bikes, which hopefully will translate into less-obscene prices in the PRC.

    cheers!
