Hero Honda is now Hero Moto Corp.

Heros’ top model today is currently the Karizma ZMR, on the road price in India is about $2,200.00 USD.
The engine is the Honda 223cc OHC, PGMI and an oil cooler 17.6HP @70000rpm 18.3Nm@6000 0-60kmph is 3.7 sec…which would be 0-38mph in the west or 0-60mph in 6.0 sec....maybe?
Dear MJH,
Many thanks for posting that Hero Honda video. Nice inspiring little slice of Indian life!
cheers!
I thought I would share it, kind of heart warming video.
Hero is rumored to be developing a 400cc diesel motorcycle…
A respectable Wiki article on the topic in general.
“According to Indian news outlet NDTV, Hero Honda is in talks with an engine supplier from Chennai, India to supply diesel engines larger than 400cc.

Hero has purchased a 49.2% share of Erik Buell Racing.
Buell’s engineering staff has been consulting Hero’s research and development staff.

No plans to co-brand, seems that hero simply wants the technical knowledge that they lost when divested from Honda, they now can export were as before they contractually could not.

Hero has incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary in the USA.

Basically Hero capitalized, EBR with 25M USD.
EBR bikes sell of 40K and that sets them way above Hero, so what fruit comes from this will be interesting.
They need to bridge up off the inherited Honda technology, Buell did reach down market and offer a single in the Buell Blast.
I wonder if it be possible for the engineers at EBR to offer the next engine to Hero without considering the Blasts engine and design?
India does not suffer from the same whose as the Chinese motorcycle industry, they do not have 400 manufactures and do not violate international laws? They seem to be better partners They could investigate these people at MAC and could bring back that engine maybe? HD likely owns the rights to it, maybe?
I would bet that Hero wants their own engines and could be why nothing new is coming out of them? They certainly see the movements around them and in that certainly have a plan. BMW and TVS, as well as KTM/Bajaj/Kawasaki are actively developing in India.
The Chinese and the multi-branding is crazy, however the Indian manufacturing could stand to add some new brands and in that cater to multiple levels within the global markets. That MAC line could be developed.
They are not going to be co-banding with EBR but they could create another or even a few more distinct brands.
For anyone curious about the title of this thread, go back and look at the immensely enjoyable YouTube Video in the first post, which I've linked in this post. This is not only really beautiful lifestyle advertising; it also demonstrates the enormous psychosocial distance between India and China. Imagine a lifestyle ad in China that celebrates the role of the motorcycle in everyday scenes of daily life!! Scooters and motorcycles are definitely used that way in China, but industry and government and the state-run media seem to be collectively so ashamed by this idea that they pretend that the motorcycle as a blessing of daily life doesn't even exist.
Sad. Or have I missed something?

Hero updated its Karizma for 2014...but it is not on their website yet, the ZMR version in white is rated closer to 20hp in addition to the new body work.

They have reached 50M unit sales to date....they now are offering a 5 year/70,000KM warranties.
Sales for 2013 are up 8% over 2012....they have the lions share of the Indian market.

Here is a site that has some information on the Upgraded Hero.
"Hero has confirmed that the Karizma ZMR engine has got an update. Hero new partner Erik Buell Racing has worked on the engine for the improved performance. We are expecting the max power about 22 BHP for the Karizma ZMR. May be we can expect a new 6 speed gearbox from Hero. The new Karizma ZMR is going to be launched in October to capitalize on the festival season rush."
The site also has some spy shoots of the Triumph 250 single.
Months back, MJH posted a link to an article here in the 'Manufacturers...' section on the discussion about Zongshen. The article was about Zongshen's CEO partipating in a contest showing 3 distinct methods of transportation in Shanghai(?) getting from point 'A' to 'B'. Of all the bikes for Zongshen to be on, he was on a step-thru scooter, and he won! I thought back then the same thing; that the fact that he was on a 2 wheeler and won, let alone a 'lowly' scooter, was significant. The article was about his views on Chinese quality in bike manufacturing (significant enough) and how he felt that all of them need to step it up, including Zongshen, but the contest was interesting for the points you mentioned.
I just enjoy following the evolution of Hero, what they did for the Karizma and that Buell influenced that improvement to that bike. It shows Hero has an interest in competing and that they are also willing to diverge from the Honda design mantra, which is most often pretty vanilla

EBR announced that it will be the USA distributor beginning next year for Hero MotoCorp.
http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/y...RO/EBR2014.jpg
EBR also will be offering its new 1190RX, its MSRP will be around $18,000.00 USD.
http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/y...ell/1190rx.jpg
Now that EBR has been capitalized by Hero they will begin manufacturing around 1200 of their 1190RX per year. The manufacturing of the EBR 1190RX will take place in East Troy Wisconsin.
It will be interesting to see who becomes the next recognized brand of motorcycles sold in the USA. My vote is for Hero Motocorp.
It seems obvious, at least to me, that Hero is working on developing bikes to meet the demands of the North America market.

Hero follows Honda into the market and has an affiliation with Eric Buell Racing. This model is intended to take domestic sales from Honda’s CB250R. Its more and for less…
Also new to the Hero model line is the Splendor Pro Classic
http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/y...74e56f06fb.jpgUnder 2K these would sell well in the US.
This is the first offering Hero launched after splitting from Honda, it is called the Impulse but only has a 150cc engine, which could be a 223cc high output engine that Hero has and it could have a better suspension and 17' street tires? I think it could sell in the US for under 3k?

hi mjh
i believe yingang is working in a same project like this one with the same CBf engine .
Yeah but Hero has a plan, they seem to be interested in midrange high performance sport bikes. The Hastur is midrange…
I am interested in a 250cc that looks more like the Hastur 600, but with fewer colors and less sharp edges then the Hastur 600.
Not a copy though, something better, first the 250 and then a 600…
More like the Z250
http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/y...0e1cf763fc.jpg
I think the pricing is off on this more likely to be around 3-3.25 Lakh

I wonder if that Hastur trellis frame is under the HX250R?

I like the little horizontal engine bikes, these could be brought to the US in force with a line of scooters, but what is important is pricing.

What is interesting about this is that all of these will be priced near or under 3K, the HX250R will likely retail for about $3,200.00.
The 223cc for under $2,600.00
The 150cc for under $2,000.00
The 100cc for under $1,750.00
Making these offerings very affordable and also high quality and well supported. Legally licensed Honda Quality and Technology and highly affordable. These people are smart enough to know they will have to get their name out and greed and profit is not first and foremost.
Those... Those are really easy to ride.

And now seriously.
Speaking of pricing, do you know how much costs pure "Honda" (not "Hero-Honda", "Wuyang-Honda", "You-name-it-Honda") "Dream Yuga 110" in India? Some 800 bucks, retail price. OK, it is preety basic bike, but still.
Even with the greediest importer, "Dream Yuga" can not reach the price of these 100 cc Hero's horizontals.
Taking it across the Pacific and effectively distributing it doubles the retail price. Problem is that 2x near nothing is it worth the bother? If the agenda is to establish a brand name then perhaps.
Most imports manufactured in low costs Asian production centers end up at or over 2x the factory direct price. How much higher the twice as much then in cost out of the factory is related to competition and how much the market will pay. Legitimately sold and supported cost more than a cheaply made bike sent to your home in a crate.
I thought that with the increase in sales volume (which is possible when the market is big; US market is a good example), simultaneously are reduced other costs, so the retail price of a product is lower. On the other hand, I can not perceive the costs that some company in the US may have - paperwork, office clerks, mechanics, various rents and taxes...
About pricing: at the local moto forum, we have come to a pretty accurate equation for calculating the retail price of a C-moto: take the FOB price in dollars, multiply by two and then, a dollar sign in front of that number, replace with euro sign. Here it worked like a charm in the time of greatest expansion of C-moto. Today, in a time of crisis, the equation is different and the prices are lower.
Read this…
Industry sources for annual sales in the USA; do they include any of the online sales. They state annual sales numbers are provided to them by the manufacturers.
The real numbers can only be counted as each unit sale is registered and reordered in each state as “registered” each could be counted accurately that way and by filtering on manufacturer and by the model year.
For example:
If Honda states they sold 5,000 motorcycles in 2014 in California , then the state of California would have had at least 5,000 new registrations in that year. The 2014 sales in that state can only be seen by counting on the WMI for Honda and a model year of 2014 in the states database.
The article states that scooter sales are down, are they? Or are they up and not being counted? Is the industry only counting major brands?
One year HD provided unit numbers shipped to each dealer as sales, they in that made it look like sales were at record high levels. When in fact the units were not sold they were sitting on the floors of showrooms. They got sued for doing that and paid damages for doing that. Doing that made the value of the stock go up, insiders sold their stock and took a profit on the false numbers.
How many 50cc scooters were sold in the USA in 2014? How many were imported in the USA and how many of them registered in each of the 50 states? They do not have anyone counting that way, the difference between what is imported and registered is standing inventory. Holding inventory cost more, a healthy industry rotates it fast or at least what is made in a year sells in that year. It is not uncommon to see year old models, even 2-3 year old models sitting in showrooms.
The Chinese are sneaking into the market, the industry is ignoring the numbers. I read this article as the Chinese imports took 15% of scooter sales in the USA in 2013. I doubt sales overall fell, they have grown and sourced online directly and not being counted.
