250rtc engine/carb problem
just curious as to whether this happens to anyone, bike starts up good, ride around for 10 minutes then engine just starts bogging out, going full throttle has no effect/the engine just starts going lower and lower rpm while bogging( by bogging I mean chugging along) and if you let go of the throttle just a little the engine turns straight off.

Make sure that the choke is not on.

I did, eventually I waited a few hours and it rode perfectly again. Guess the engine was just too hot and I need to do a valve adjustment soon

I still think the choke was on. If your engine got that hot to make it run the way you described then you should have major damage. Why do you think the engine got too hot?

Check tank venting. It's possible that not enough air gets in, and this reduces fuel flow.

The tank likely is vented at the top, typically they have a chamber the fuel needs to be beneath that chamber. It would have a vent line that leads into a canister filled with charcoal, it filters the fumes and prevents the tank from forming an air lock and chocking off the fuel supply. Basically you should never top the tank the fuel should be far enough from the top to ensure you do not submerge the vent.
If a bike is not running right and particularly if it is brand new you should not keep running it.
If it running fine now with less fuel in the tank then that likely was the issue, if you feel it over heated then best thing to do is change the oil. When you do that measure what you take out and do not put more in then you take out.
You could assume that the specs on the valve clearances are correct from the factory, you would hope they are! You typically check them after the engine is worn in not before.

The problem is mostlikely that you overfilled your gas tank and you had a vapor lock issue. the evap system on the bike gets backed up with a bit of fuel it will choke out on you

how would I be able to solve this issue? I guessed it would either be this or a valve problem

how noticeable would this be? I mean say I filled in the gas to the top and rode for about 30 minutes then started noticing a problem. Or if I filled the gas tank the day before and then this day I noticed problems. Would this be enough to assure it isnt a vapor lock problem?

Dont over fill the gas tank, can you take a picture of the gas cap there are a few ways to ensure that vapor lock can be corrected the best is venting the gas tank

venting the gas tank= riding the bike until it stalls and then taking the gas cap off and see if it starts then?

Why don't you just stick a rag in the place of the cap and ride like that for 10-15 min to test.

Well I have ridden the bike with the gas tank open and the problem still occurs

Well, the next one in the line is carburetor bowl. Is everything there clean and free moving as it should?

today I am going to test it by doing what barnone has told me to do, ride the bike until problem comes up, then open the drain screw fully and tunr on engine and see if any gas comes out the runoff hose

Matt if Sunny told you that the engines valve clearances may not be correct then you may want to take that into consideration.
Ask them for instructions on how to set the valves and to what clearances. Check this website for instructions on how to check/adjust the valves on similar push rod engines for comparison.
If they did not set the valve clearances correctly at the factory then running the engine cannot be good for it.
I would get the specs from Sunny and then check the valves, if you do not feel comfortable doing that yourself then find a mechanic, have them check the valves and the carburetor as well. That should be less then $100.00 in most shops.
Think ahead if you address the problem yourself and it is not resolved, they can blame it all on you. If you address the problem with a mechanic and it not resolved you have recourse.

thanx, already took everything into consideration, got all the tools for the job and a few extra like a compression gauge, will do myself as many mechanics told me they would not work it on because its a chinese bike and if they touch anything it seems the whole bike falls apart, they are being truthful atleast, well I look forward to the fix, will have a how to posted on here with pics of how to do it, I have many bookmarked videos and documents on the subject matter so it should go well

Alright guys I have done what you have told me to do today, here is my exact recap of what happenned and what I did today with the bike.
originial problematic state, at 10:00 got on bike and rode around for 30 minutes to an hour going through all gears all speeds. The bike rode fine and had no problems at all while riding, yet when starting it up it did have the usual get up to temp. delay.
I then let the bike site for 2 hours
after 2 hours I ride the bike to the gym. on the way to the gym about 5 minutes in the bike starts backfiring and chugging and as soon as let go of throttle it turns off. I pull over.
I then open the gas cap completely and try turning over the bike with no choke and everything at original state, it does not start. I close it.
I then try tunring on the bike with carb float bowl draine screw fully out and gas leaks out of hose fast. I screw the screw back in to how it was.
Bike still wont start.
At this point I just get fed up and turn the idle screw so that the idle revs starts at 2000, a little high. the bike then starts but it takes a good 10 seconds and giving half throttlle to get it started.
Riding 20 minutes to the gym it rides perfectly fine.
Let the bike sit for 1 hour, ride back home 30 minutes and it rode perfectly.

This starts to seem like a mixture issue.
Btw. have you checked air filter for leaks?

This is not what I asked you to do. Next time the engine dies do not open the gas cap, do not try to start the engine(turn on), just open the drain screw and see if gas runs out. This will determine if you have fuel in the float bowl when the engine stops running.
You might have an electrical problem that is intermittent.
Go to a Harbor Freight store and get one of these spark testers.

Next time your engine dies, hook up the spark tester and see if you are getting spark when you try to restart the engine.

yea I sprayed it with wd-40 and check for air leaks around, found nothing

barnone, today I ran it again but it had very different results. And this time when it did stop, first thing I did was open drain screw and gas did come out. So this adds a twist to all of this I guess.
Today I did exactly what I did the other day except I ran it at a higher idle, 1800 cold 1900 hot so it actually stayd in a consistent range than what it was before, cold 1400 hot 1800.
So I ran it for an hour it ran good. Parked it for one hour and then got back on and within 5 minutes it stopped again. I checked the drain screw and and gas cap again, all was good. I then started it but this time it actually had no problem starting up as compared to before. And then I continued to ride it for 30 minuted going full throttle and going through every gear and it ran perfectly.
What in the world?

Weird problem. Seems to not be a problem getting fuel in the float bowl.
Starting to sound like an intermittent electrical problem.
Get one of those spark testers.

I have been told by a mechanic that checked it out that it was a bad coil, however I dont want to get just another similar chinese made coil, I am now looking for other bike coils that might fit that might perform better. I just dont understand if it is electrical or bad coil, how in the world would it have allowed me to start up the bike again so quick and ride it for another 30 minutes going pretty hard on the bike?

Could be the coil breaking down at certain temperatures. I've had that problem before on a Honda VT500FT. Trying a new coil and a new NGK spark plug would be fairly inexpensive. Hope it's not the CDI.
Don't expect any performance improvement from a more expensive coil.

Im not, just hoping for more reliability. Yea getting an iridium sparkplug with some "performance" spark wires and a new coil is going to be cheap, easy, and might fix the problem. I have been wanting to take it to a mechanic to see if he could just diagnose the problem and then I would fix it but here in miami none of the shops seem to have good ratings and the mechanics seemed as lost as the mechanics at scoterdepot.
