What is a TTL ?
thank you for understanding its all in fun. but on a serious note. has no one in here never bought a car fixed it up to make it real clean all for under 100$ and sell it for more than they paid? i have. its called wheelin+dealin. now, lets take the df. we can all agree on this. it is a piece of shit out of the crate. i fixed mine to now be way more than that. not shitty at all. that makes it worth more than $2000. because its not a piece of shit joke anymore. it is a motorcycle now. get it yet? it is now a better product. see how that works. all this can or cant do over a little wheelin+dealin. get over yourselves.
Tax , Titled and Licenced and I agree a low milage bike that's had all the issues resolved should be able to sell for more n u paid 4 it , all a matter of waiting for that fella that's looking for a new small bike
So I need some info on this bike. Im thinking of buying this one as itll be my first bike and I don't want or need anything stupid fast and shiny. This I believe will be a good lil commuter to and from work and fact that its 2500ish makes it even better. I'm not afraid of the lil fixes that others of had to do and I do plan on customizing it as many others have done. I saw in a few of the posts that people have had trouble registering it here in the states. Has anyone ever registered one in TN? Trouble free? Now for parts, what parts are compatable from other bikes? or parts to fix the stock ones? I have been looking at this bike for quite some time and have looked at as many youtube vids as I could possibly watch that concern this bike. Ive looked at as many links as I could find as well. So im as educated about it and someone who doesnt own one but wants to ahaha. Thanks!

Welcome! I do not own one, but am also thin king of getting one. I am almost done reading this entire thread, and there is loads of great information here. I see you are thinking of the new model with the springer front end. So far, in m y reading, only one or two have bought that one so far. The other new one has the same "peanut" tank as the springer model, but has traditional front forks on it. That is the one I am considering. I would advise you not to buy the earlier model. They are selling those off and these two new models replace them. You can tell the earlier model by the very unique fuel tank, and very unique handlebars. The problem with those is the large number that develop gas leaks at that tank. They don't all leak, but the very questionable mounting system they used is an accident waiting to happen. Many owners had to get warranty gas tanks, and some of those leaded. I understand the new models have a much better mount, and I expect no problems. Personally, I didn't like the older handlebars either, or the looks of the older tanks, but that is personal opinion. I wish these came with a kick start and standard tubeless wheels, but I understand, if the seals on the stock wheels (spoke wheels with seals) you can put tubes in them and run them that way. I think these are nice looking bikes, and I am soon to be 60 and have ridden for over 52 years now. I am fine with a smaller motorcycle. I also am glad that these bikes run a pushrod engine rather than an OHC with cam chain and tensioner. Valves will be a snap to adjust on these, as will about any maintenance needed. There are some known issues, and you may want to read through this thread.
My new DF250RTB-A (2012 telescopic fork model) left Chino CA on 6/19/13 and is past Albuquerque NM on it way to Robbinsville NC.
if we were talking about a vehicle without inherent flaws and a established market, i would agree one can increase the price... if put the work into a vehicle i paid fair market for, then improved it to the point it exceeds anything else, i would expect to be compensated for that.
But we are talking about a bike that has notable flaws to begin with, and while those got fixed, i don't see how one might reasonably expect to get a higher price compared to what the new model which doesn't have the flaws to begin with.
In my neck of the woods, a more fluent part of the country, I ask those whom ask what they think i spent on the bike, they guess 5 or 6k, but therein lies the problem, we are asking those with no knowledge or intention of buying a bike for how much they would buy this bike...
ask that person again after they start looking into buying a bike, and see what they say about the price...
well like i said in my original post, if one waits long enough there is likely a buyer.
So how about this, don't let it go, rather just drive it around with a for sale sign on it, and let it happen.
I do recall a guy registering in TN a while back, dont remember where in the thread but if you read 100 posts a day and ull be done in a few weeks :)
also , email the seller, if they know its a problem they will likely tell you about it.
im sure at this point they dont want the hassle of you demanding a return later.
so i finally got around to swapping the rear sprocket. the only hard part was ensuring the alignment given the old sprocket was about 55 mil thicker than the new...
so i fabricated a shim for it...
I wonder if i had not shimmed if the 25-30 mil shift really would have caused problems later.
I mean, looking at the 2 spacers on there now, i wonder how accurate they really are to begin with...
So, I know one of you guys did make a shim as well, but am i correct to assume the rest of you didn't?
alright gang, what about this "universal" tach
http://tinyurl.com/lrf6ow3
the 5 wires they described:
black line lock positive electrode
green line lock negative electrode
yellow line contacts signal
some models need to attach high voltage line
I translate this too:
black 12V
green ground
yellow negative coil
again im looking for anything in a dial for my front end mod
no I didn't make a shim , I rather had to REMOVE 1 when my 3rd sprocket arrived , so I only have sprocket and C clip
Point taken chruk,
Yes my brothers do this as well. Buy an old car for $500 and fix it up and sell it for $2000. It can be done.
One of my brothers works at a dealership and brings home a cheap clucker every month. Its a good way to make extra cash.
And I may be able to get a good chunk of change for my DF if Im lucky and persistant. It's just that Chinese bikes (around here at least) have a bad rep placed on them and most buyers are savy enough to google this bike or ask local dealers about it and come away with doubts.
But I agree, My bike has some issues but what little I did to the bike improved it out of the box. Just need to address the slow leak in my tank and take care of the rust issues.
In my experience I see guys with Harleys etc all the time telling me how they bought their hog for next to nothing so where I live there is lots of competition. Living in an Army town means lots of GIs selling their bikes cheap when they transfer or deploy. Depends on where you live. The fact that the local dealers here absolutely trash Chinese bikes doesnt help. It's like real estate...location location location.
Thanks for replying and I have read through most of the beginning pages but I know I got more to go! I actually didn't notice that the model I was considering had the springer type front fork until the sales rep I was talking to online pointed that out and the fact that you just confirmed that as well. haha well I guess that was a huge noob mistake on my part. SO I guess Ill be considering the model with the traditional fork like you because I don't want the springer. I just personally don't like them. I can just find some ape hanger bars like I want to fit this bike somewhere or make some. I think its awesome a person like you with years of experience is taking the time to spread your knowledge to us younger guys. I feel we need more of that!!
BrandyJ,
I am just over the Dragon from you in Robbinsville,NC and should be getting my 2012 DF250RTB-A (what I am calling the new non springer model) late this week or early next week.
I bought it from Chad at http://www.extremescooters.biz/250cc...chopper-1.aspx for $1999.99 plus $200 freight. I bought my 2010 DF250RTB from him several years ago with good success.
Anyway, maybe in a few weeks I can meet you at the Deal's Gap store (US 129)
Attachment 12303
and show you my new DF250RTB-A.
My new DF250RTB-A is now in Memphis TN. Getting close to the Destination Terminal: KNX
(Knoxville).
Cool and for sure, we'll have to meet up if I ever do get one. Let me know about getting it registered in your state. Might make me feel better about purchasing it. I've been reading this thread for the last few hours haha and its scaring me abit about this bikecoming from an illegal manufacturer so I'm starting to feel iffy on it now. HELP ME! Can I reg and title it problem free in TN? I want the new non springer model!
BrandyJ,
I registered my previous DF250RTB (2010 model) in Florida where I reside in the winter.
You need to check with the TN DMV with a DF VIN number to verify if you can register it in TN.
So far we know that the DF cannot be registered in California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
There are probably more states to add to the list but you need to check with TN.
Here is a message from this thread that I saved so I could check with the DMV in Hawaii to see if they would license one of these here: "DFContact your DMV with this V.I.N.# LXDPCNL09A212xxxx (add any numbers in place of the x's) At most, you might have to get it inspected first. But they should be able to tell you if they will register and title that vin #."
I'm fully registered, insured and plated in Michigan. In fact, I just got my first police pull-over for -ahem- running a stop sign. Truth be told, the young cop just wanted to check out my bike. No ticket, especially after I gave him my m/c dealer business card showing my shop located in his city.
wait a second here dan, didnt you put a car tire on your bike, let alone have a differnt bike and rims to begin with?
My question was for all those that have replaced their rear sprockets on this bobber, me and at least one other on this forum, forget who, had noticed the original sprockets will align the teeth about 1/16" further out from center than these JTR replacements. So for the life of me I truly can't see how that doesn't matter.
So how about it, hadst anyone else noticed this?
Hello All. been away for sometime due to my problems with my bikes fender. As you may recall from a previous post.. I bought my 2012 non-springer back in march. The fender was rubbing against the tire and ripped off the clips on the inside of the fender that hold the brake wires.. as well as destroyed the wires..
Scooter depot first sent me a tail light replacement that was made too short and the wire did not reach the oil tank harness. Next they made me custom brackets to try and lift the fender and it required me to do welding on the fame. I refused to do this. Next.. I was waiting..since march for just a total replacement of the fender, supports, and light.. apparently they have been on back order I called literally twice a week... every week since I bought the bike.. and i was eventually told it may be a year before they were available...
I finally flipped out called my bank.. who then called sunnysports.. and was all prepared to do a full charge back.. since the bike was suppose to be brand new and working.. and it's not what i got..
I then got a call from sunnysports (scooterdepot) from a manager who said he would personally have somehting in the mail for me in one week. He took a fender from the old 2010 style... made custom arched brackets that attach where the turn signals would mount on that model.. and fit it for the 2012... Not sure how it is going to look.. as it has not arrived yet.. but the riding season is comning to and end here in new England and I have yet to been able to even register this bike. Lets hope after all this that the damn thing is RI compliant.
Anyway.. since I already repainted my tank and fenders a satin black... and this new frankenstein fender will need paint.. im just going to rip it all down and use my HVLP and redo it all semi-gloss black..
I have so many hours into this bike and have not even had it on 2 lane road yet.
The reason i bought the 2012 and not the 2010 was because i liked the lines of the bike... lets hope this fender style does not ruin it.
Bobthebobber,
Sorry to hear you are having a serious problem with your DF. I should get my 2012 DF tomorrow so will be looking at the taillight wiring clearance. Are you the only one with this problem on the 2012?
Thanks
no it has happened to about a half dozen people.. Apparently you can just bend the arch supports and it allows greater clearance
