A somewhat successful author whom wrote about his walk across America many years ago. But in particular wrote of a very harsh experiance passing through your hood.
That said, id still hope to take my bike on such a trip someday...

Oh, I have that book ( A Walk Across America ) around here somewhere. The police cannot get away with that type of harassment any more.
Axa,
There is no magic formula.. or complicated algorithm behind my reasoning.. Just the fact that I could not justify profiting so much..due to this persons lack of knowledge regarding the bike. He did stop over yesterday in fact ...and re-offered me 3200 for it. This ..I am actually considering. .. he said that my time and effort spent addressing the known problems more than justifies over paying the dealer price... no hassles with the company.. and no troubles trying to adjust and tune everything.
He told me the paint job alone was worth 300 bucks to him... I doubt this.. but hey... if he says so (:
Might I invite everyone here. I have dealt with this company several times with hobby RC helicopters. They also have a lot of great bike stuff.. helmets.. tachs.. headlights.. Everything with cheap prices and free shipping. Takes about a month or so to get the items coming from china.. but they have great customer service. I bought an RC from them had had an issue.. and they sent me a replacement plus extra batteries for make up for it. Check it out.

You know... you're probably right.. I did go through quite a lot of BS with scooter depot over that fender. I would not personally spend 5 grand on a 55mph bike though...
In other news.. I saw a 150cc scooter on the freeway today doing 65.... it made me mad.
There was a post here with someone saying something along the lines of... "remember its only 250cc... and a 250cc engine is not powerful enough to travel on the freeway."
Before I was into motorcross I started off with trail bikes..... so let me do a few small 4 stroke comparisons: About 16 years ago I had a honda xr200 dirtbike with basically the same motor as our DF. The bike would run 71 mph stock gps confirmed.. I also had a xr250 that ran 91 mph on pavement.. gps confirmed stock.. I even had a little Chinese 110cc 4 stroke pocket bike that I had registered. I took it on the freeway all the time.. after i regeared it I could travel around 70 mph... Also my wife had a 150cc gy6 powered vespa style scooter that could travel at highway speeds stock. Lastley I had a '89 ninja 250 (much different motor than our DF) and with just a slip on and rear sprocket change I did 123 mph confirmed on GPS... These DF engines are more than capable of running on the freeway if setup properly...however I just dont feel like mine will ever reach the freeway point.. even with more gearing changes.
But honestly my wife's scooter felt like it had more balls than the df .. and I think in a flat out drag race.. the scooter and the little 110cc minibike would smoke the bobber.
I might try and replace the motor with a honda xl250 motor.. my buddy has one that needs a rebuild.. maybe a project ill work on over the winter if i dont sell my DF to that guy... ill have to take some measurements but ill let you know.
In other news.. i bought that HALO LED headlight. ChiTown, how did you end up wiring yours up? Did you have any problems? Did you wire the halo to be on all the time or did you add a second switch?
We have 2 scooters. A Kymco People 150, and a SYM HD200. The Kymco can do 55-60 on the main highway here. The SYM, we brought from the mainland. It would do freeways just fine. Plus, being twist and go scooters, both are fast off the line. I commuted 65 miles a day into Seattle for years. I rode a 2001 Kawasaki KLR250 for some of that time. I took the back roads in, as I started super early and didn't want to take I-5 in the dark. But I rode it home each day on I-5 and Highway 167. No problem. Not only can many 250cc motorcycles do freeways, but I went on multi-state tours with full camping gear on a 1976 Honda XL350 dual sport thumper. I took mostly more back highways doing it, but I had lots of fun. That was about 1976.
Still lovin my DF
WOT on flat ground. Wouldn't want to keep her there for long as she's screaming.
barnone, since you're the one who started this thread and had the bike for 2 years now, how would you rate the bike? Any parts you replace since then? I'm planning to buy one, but don't know how reliable chinese bikes are.
you could have posted something about this before, but 437 pages is hard to scroll ;)
Thanks
Maybe bowtiewagon with about 10,000 miles on his 2010 will chime in with his experience.
I just tried a different air cleaner and still had the cutting out problem at 6k RPM. Then went back to the 105 main from the 108 and now have the cutting out problem at 7k RPM at 65 MPH indicated. Maybe I will be happy with that for now.
(Note: remember with no air cleaner my 2012 DF would run up to 7500 RPM with no cutting out but like Bob said, you don't want to stay there long.)
Pulled the intake manifold off and there is a smooth run to the intake valve.
I bought this bike because I am a poor working class man. I needed some cheap transportation.
I did not want to ride a scooter any more, and when I saw it on scooter depot it was the right fit for me. I am proud to say that my 2010 DF has never given me any troubles other than small set backs, which I hear are also the types of things that occur on many higher dollar bikes. I have just under 10,000 miles on it, I ride daily, rain or shine. (It is my go to ride to work, and sometimes it may be raining when I leave...but I gotta get home now don't I)
As for the items that have given me issues, they were nothing that were costly, and easily replaced for better quality products. The motor has been great, although I am due for an oil change. In fact I have yet to replace the spark plug. Yes that is correct, it is the original spark plug the bike came with from the factory. I see no need to replace it if it isn't broke. My bike is not a beauty queen, I am more of a rat bike kinda guy. so no fancy chrome, no fancy paint, nothing extra that I do not need.I do like what a lot of people have done to their bikes, but not for me.
I changed the sprocket to a 35 tooth, I added a set of saddle bags( with my own bracket to hold them on). The headlight was changed out for an auto mobile headlight. The handle bars were changed to mini apes for my comfort. and she runs and goes just like the first day I got her. For the money she is what she is. and I think she has paid me back with the cost savings at least twice now.
Just working out the details to replace the cush bushings( thanks axa for the terminology) gonna look more into that this weekend at a Honda dealership.
On that note I have measured them, they are 7/8" deep and about 1" wide. The part number 41241-307-010 I found looks to be the same, but I have yet to see one in person and hesitate to order offline. I will find out this weekend if the dealer has any. fingers crossed.
Best bang for the buck this bike is. I recommend it anyone and everyone that looks at her.
@ barnone.. I cured my cutting out problem after all the switching of the jets i did. Its running stock jets now with the closed ended filter and a little less than 2.5 turns out on the adjustment. No more cutting out.. I did mess with the accelerator pump though also.
Anyway i went to lowes today and picked up this stuff. I decided to spend a little more and get the joint-less coupler to keep it all chrome and not have the black rubber coupler. (im not using this filter with the ram.. it was just for the pic.. Ii will be running the stock filter until my new one arrives in the mail)
Im thinking I will mount it facing the left side so that it will not be taking in any exhaust heat
total cost on this was about 14 dollars

i found this filter on ebay for 9 bucks from china.. it looks just like the stock filter with the open end. (2012 filter has the little knob sticking through it where the crank was vented.. I have plugged the knob.. id rather replace to delete it all together). This will be used for the ram air setup,

I know Chi tried that reverse cone filter and it didnt work well as it forced too much air.
any thoughts on something like this being better than the stock filter? Maybe Caulk off the back side so that the air is forced inside and doesnt pass through and out the back of the shield?

I could probably make something like this using my existing filter and a big plastic cup.. but this might just be more restrictive than having no funnel around the filter.. any thoughts?? I could easily make some sort of scoop.. but not sure if it would be beneficial or not.. and then of course there would be extra drag.. and with a motor this small it might do more harm than good at 50+mph

After hours of searching tonight I think i finally found what we are looking for to use with the ram air setup

It sounds to me like the carb is unable to flow enough air with a filter on there.I would try a velocity stack and facing the carb vent tube toward the front of the bike.

You can get the Clevland CycelWerks Heist, its almost the same bike but they tack on 50% for their 'troubles'...
May well be worth it for you.
whats wrong with the setup you have in this pic above?
This is what i do with the stock filter, fixed my top end WOT issue and leaves me a bit of extra air without leaning it out according to the sparkplug.
But yet i still have enough airflow that i can apply a bit of choke with no apparent problems...
Does it give you too much air? The stock filter is apparently restrictive enough to prevent this...
By the way, you'll be able to butt that p-trap right up against the carb and minimize the size of the couple to about an inch, then the rubber black is at a minimum.
That said, the black on our matte bikes don't look so bad
check it out:

That may just give you the right mix... but then again it just may not. Note that it says "adjustable" ring clamp, not air flow...
But I think you may have found the right idea with that red cap with the holes in it, if your getting too much air with an unrestricted ram, then you can cap it and add holes until you find the right balance...
That said, you may just want to try the stock filter with the p-trap first, works for me...
