no you dont get it. thats my point.

fuel injected. automatic. i smoke everything off the line. my friends dont like that. they have to catch me before they run their rings. is that enough or do you need an entire library of pics. my wife dumped it and scratched it all over the right side. front to end. felt bad and wanted to paint it but i told her i thought it looks cool. i put some really expensive ($6) foam grip covers on it like on the df. didnt need it. but super smooth now. maybe this tread could use some foam covers. its kinda ruff.
Hate to tell "US" old timers but, The CVT is HERE ! We finally have the tuff enough materials and the understanding of them to make them perform better than a manual shift and without losing if not more efficientcy . My girlfriends 260 JCL scooter will out accelerate my Ninja 250 to 40 mph (If I'm not out & out drag racing) and still has a nice cruising speed of about 70 + . , And gets 70-80 MPG. And forget about the Fang Bobber, She will beat it in ALL categories, except the COOL category ofcourse. And shes at least 190 LBS. PS I still ride my Fang Bobber though. lol
you do realize i am speaking about my df250rtb here. as i simply state i cant relate. or does someone think i am talking about riding a totally other cycle while i laugh at holding up traffic on a df? that could be. its like thinking a surprised reaction to a seemingly low price is an offer for $. you know. wipe before you shit kinda stuff.
a new thread is a good idea. dongfang df250rtb gostartyourownthreadaboutyourbike. then we can talk about dfrtb only. there are places in here that are loaded with entire vacations on NON-df bikes. wow. whats that about. its funny who complains about what on this tread. this is where i would like to use a big word but...
chruk,
You should start your own thread about the Morphous.
I guess you can do what you want but it seems to me that you should not clutter up this thread that is dedicated to the DF250RTB.
If I wanted a Morphus discussion I would go to a Morphous thread or site.
I think most people would agree, this thread painfully long.
Many forums restrict to "on topic posts only" due to things just like this.
No offense but the fact that the Morpheus or any other bike has better acceleration than this threads dong fang is irrelevant.
Its the same reason you will find many forums restrict "gloats" as well,
No body wants to hear it, especially when it doesn't further the conversation about the DF.
Wouldn't it be nice to quickly go back and find post about a part your searching for.
Wouldn't it have been nice for a new follower to quickly read through the thread since inception.
Unless it furthers the discussion about the DFRTB250, then why don't we all keep it to ourselves.
We all post a questionable topic every once in a while, but here i see 3 in a row about absolutely nothing but a gloat about some arbitrary scooter.
Thus we are arguing about this now....
I just turned off email updates cause of this nonsense.
you two are a piece of work.
My Dyson has way better suction than my friend's hoover. All my buddies are jealous that it sucks up all the dirt off the line... and they have to spend a lot of time going back and forth over the same spot...
Sorry to tell the old timers... buy cyclone technology is here
Back on the bobber, I have to take off my shifter linkage and weld it again tomorrow. Who has that improved shifter linkage again ?
I know what you're talking about. I had a BMS TBX260 before, with CVT, but the CVT is not heaven on earth.
First of all, a cvt can only be tuned one way; either for performance, or for fuel economy. With a manual geared bike you can go in performance mode (high RPMs) OR in eco mode (shifting at low RPMs) without making any hardware mod.
Manual gears allow you to also go beyond the final gear ratio of a CVT. If a cvt is tuned for performance, it's tuned that at 8 or 8,5k RPM (max RPM the engine runs with without losing too much torque), it'll go at top speed.
With a manual geared bike you can tune the gears so they match this top speed in 4th or 5th gear, while still having 1 gear extra to use as overdrive gear (basically suppose you'd be riding 60MPH, the CVT will be running at 6k RPM, the manual geared bike also 6k RPM in 4th, but shifting to 5th gear, you'd be riding 60 while doing only 5 or 4k RPM, thus you're saving gas).
That, and, the BMS 260 I had rambled apart, and the CVT belt was a goner in 2k miles. I yet have to find the first motorcycle that needs a chain/sprocket change more than once every 30-50k miles.
Also, CVT eats upto 10% more fuel than chain drive, by the belt friction.
You only had 70+ MPG because it has fuel injection.
A properly set up carburetor should give you the same results.
If a carbed 229cc motorcycle would be equipped with fuel injection, I see no reason that it won't be able to get 85MPG easily.
WTF do you mean? This thread is about the DF250RTB and not about other bikes. Why is that so hard to understand?
I belong to a forum for my 2012 Ural. I belong to a forum for my 2001 Kawasaki. I belong to a forum for my 2012 Scion IQ which has a CVT. I belong to a forum for my wife's 2013 Outback which has a CVT. I belong to a forum for my UTV which has a CVT. I had a SYM HD200 which had a CVT. ETC...
I don't discuss them here. Why is that so hard to understand?
Geez, Don't blow a gasket. I'm trying to get us back on course here. But you guys keep wanting to raise hell about "something" ! What about my shifter ? And BTW I know all about power transmission and being set up for this and/or that, And I do agree with you Prodigit . Except about wear, There is a big difference in quality as far as tires and belts , especially on scooters. Her stock rear tire was shot in 1200 miles. But this Michilin Pilot sport has more than tripled that life hands down. Last said about the scooter.

Your mamma don't work here. Don't you know how to do a search?

You do realize I made that post about vacuum cleaners as a parody of.. these statements....making fun of all this garbage that is being posted..

I thought that someone would pick up on this. Apparently not... but at least my wife found it hilarious.
Wow, I hope this thread isnt going downhill. It is too valuable and I wonder if there is a posting limit on it's size. But I agree that common sense dictates that we stay on topic. Yes there is a search engine but posting about grandma's buick in here isnt helping us DF owners. (just joking of course). Even a search engine has limitations. And lord knows I posted Off Topic on the Enfield here so pot-kettle-black. Guilty as charged.
I only pray that if this thread ever closes somebody will have the knowhow and care as to how to save it in PDF format for download and back reference. At this point I do at least have a txt file I keep for the stuff that concerns me most.
And Ironically I am posting this off topic as well. See what you guys started LOL?
So.. something I do not understand.
I watched several videos of the Heist today. The bike completely stock with just a change to a 38 rear sprocket will do 80 mph... this motor is basically the same as ours.. Is it paired with a different transmission?
Had mine flat out today with all the mods and 35 rear 58 mph.
says who?
you watching this vid ??
I don't live too far from there, its the GSP south.
65 is average, 75 avg in the left lane.
I know it well, and for some reason, slow traffic stays in the center lane. And look where he was the entire vid, center lane with cars passing him from both the left AND the right...
I know what the comments say, hold 65-70, 80 bursts, but i don't buy it. And thats NOT what was going down in the video anyway.
ccw uses a 11.5kw 167fmm just as our does, and no tuning in the world is going to buy much more than that.
he might have been doing 65 but the slow center lane doesn't do anymore than that, but i think we could hold that on a flat with barone or dan's gearing...
and for all i know they may be using an over ambitious speedometer just like ours...
Did the rider weigh 100 lbs. ? I had a 16/38 setup that actually made the Chinagirl to high geared for the torque/hp it has. Hell, it would only go about 57 mph. You could tell it just didn't have enough power to go any faster with that taller gearing.
Don't believe everything you see or read on the internet.
That guy in the video is Gordo who exaggerates the performance of the Heist.
And again weight has little affect on top speed. Wind resistance, rolling resistance, and available power are the major limiting factors affecting top speed.
Weight will affect acceleration.
As mentioned previously, the Heist and the DF have almost identical engines. Both are 167FMM engines. I got banned from the CCW forum for telling them to correct their specs to 229cc instead of 250cc.:lol8:
I agree, But because I am 6'3 255lbs, guess what ? The bike has more rolling resistance because I'm smashing down on the tires more than a 100 lbs. rider. And I'm catching a heck of a lot more wind than a normal size 130 lbs. person. Therefor wind risistance comes into play also weather you are tall and/or fat. Again I agree with you. I wouldn't belong to a forum that you really have to watch what you say to not get kicked out. I think a lot less of Cleveland Cycle works now for having heard that. The Hiest must not be that great if Clevland Cycle Works has to stiffle the truth.
ive seen this "performance" head from ccw, perhaps it was the 550$ price tag that i didnt look any further...
my initial investigation lead me to believe that it would be difficult to obtain much of a gain by head work on such a small engine. But anything is possible with enough effort i suppose...
But in fact that they consider their "performance" carb is just a 45 pilot, 105 main jet upgrade... for 155$, that was enough evidence for me to judge they are not likely putting enough effort in redirecting the ports to make any significant gain.
Also that dyno chart they provide as 'proof', is IMPOSSIBLE to read... i tried zooming, enhancing... no dice...
Its all smoke and mirrors with them. I get it, they are looking at a different customer, were the right presentation sells the product. similar to the strategy as apple takes.
Anyway, I determined my skills and my lathe will not be able to do the work with the precision that is required, so ive been speaking to a local machine shop about a new bore and sleeve for the cylinder... they have dedicated boring equipment.
Initial indication is that they can do a new bore and new sleeve for a few hundred $, and i live in a very very expensive local for this. New rods, and perhaps a polish may be worth it while the engine is apart...
I am investigating this for a winter project so anyone around the NY tristate area get in contact with me, we will be able to take advantage of multiple piece pricing...
You can set it to do both... Set it to limit the download to the website "http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/showthread.php?2738-Dong-Fang-DF-250-RTB-Bobber-Information" and set it to download 3 sub links, and you'll have the complete thread in a ~80MB file. It downloads the photo attachments, but I don't know about the sub-links.
If you set it to download everything, this thread with all it's sub-links are downloaded, but the size can easily amount in the hundreds of megabytes, if not gigabytes.
