The price is a lot better. ($845 USD). Thanks for the link. Do you think yamaha parts could be used? Is it a faithful copy?
I would like a bike with at least 18" wheels.. better if the front is 21". This is for safety, I think there is less chance of an accident (small scooter wheels can be swallowed by potholes on bad roads).
The route involves some very high passes and lots of mountainous areas. A 125 loaded-up might struggle at high altitudes.. although I doubt the roads there will allow high speeds anyway. But FI or a bigger displacement would probably be a good idea. Are there any FI "kits" sold on taobao for bikes like the YBR125?
I will put a post in the "Dirt n' Dual-Sport" forum, to try to get some more input.
Just booked flights to Macau, will arrive on the 13th May (one week from now). Hopefully will get our visas before arriving, otherwise will try to pick it up in Macau.

Im sure you need insurance for all the countries you will be crossing, do you have an idea how to solve this? can a normal insurance company in China (or any other country) provide you with a valid insurance and proof that you have it?

Will a letter from the registered owner be enough?I won't have a Chinese license, but I'm prepared to run the risk. Are there likely to be any more difficulties with paperwork?Does anyone have any recommendations for a bike? I think a dual-sport/trail bike, 150cc+. Perhaps one that we could find parts for outside of China. We would like to spend less than $1000 USD on the bike. Many ThanksDavid
i found the motorcycle market in Kunming...it might help you...it has parts of all kinds, not for buying used motorcycles though.Dajinma Motorcycle Market Jinma road (middle), Guandu District
