100 miles divided by 2.5 hours equals 40 MPH.
Ok so you can do math. 100 miles one way with the variables of shore and normal traffic on a friday of Memorial Day weekend with red lights and a 30 - 35 minute food and Bio break.
200 miles round trip and coming home took me roughly 2 hours so I averaged 50mph on my return trip if there were no variables in place.
Now by car when i take the NJ turnpike the trip, one way, it takes me roughly an hour and forty-five to two hours depending on traffic and lets not forget I'm drivin in Jersey here! Ay fogetaboutit :mwink:
Also the bike is handling great I am having a lot of fun riding it and who would have thought that a little 250 (229cc) could keep such a smile on my face :icon10:
Thinking about doing this tonight (finally). I've read from quite a few people to not soak the wrap, instead just run it through warm water as your wrapping it. What's the benefit to one method over another? Less water to dry out if your not soaking I'd imagine, is it not very pliable if you don't let it soak? I didn't even have time this weekend to open the box yet to see the actual material. I just want to make sure I get this right.
I think its about pliability might also be less of a mess. The dye will run as you wrap it when its soaked. I think you may get a tighter wrap when its soaked and then once it dries on the pipe (run the bike, it will smoke but thats fine just evap) it should be nice and tight.
Use gloves, nitrile or whatever, the wrap is fiberglass.
Good luck and document it
Hey y'all. So here's my story. I'm 41 and looking for my 1st bike, don't want to spend a ton, have always like the style of this bike (and the old Triumph and Harley choppers I saw in Easy Rider magazine as a kid in the 70s). I'll be riding mostly secondary roads around our semi-rural (at least compared to Gardo's videos) neck of the woods. I've looked at a few bobbers and choppers on craigslist, mostly half finished projects that fit my price range and lack of welding skills, and I'm thinking I may go with a Heist. I've got a dealer nearby who showed my one (the only one so far) he built for a client and the story is it'll run 70 mph on the freeway and get out of it's own way around town. Can anyone tell me if the frame will take a larger engine if I get bored with a 250 in a couple years?
Don't forget the Dongfang bobber, too. Essentially, the same bike, but there are a few features of difference that you can find looking over 'barnone's' thread versus the CCW Heist looking over this thread.
Personally, I have always been a proponent of first bikes being dirt bikes/enduros--I have never ridden a bobber, so these might be the way to go, but I would scour my craigslist for a cheap, registered, running Chinese enduro (if they exist around you) due to dropping/falling over issues :eekers: with first bikes. Just something to consider...
Welcome SDM, the Heist is a great first bike and the frame can hold a 500cc twin, maybe a 600 but not sure.
My old man used to have a 68 shovel head rigid bobber back in the day. he talks how he rode that bad boy all the way to Sturgis from DC, when he was stationed there. and some of the old timers he hangs with talk about their old one lungers that were chopped and bobbed.
the 70mph is within conditions, she takes a bit to get there stock, and depending on size and weight, road conditions as added variables. I love this bike and have personalized it bit by bit to make her mine. With a new carb and exhaust I hit speeds in excess of 75. I do a lot of highway riding. i do have to say that over 65 the bike starts to feel light. I'm 185 normally and she hauls me all over.
I picked up my bike on the 7th of April and in the last 8 weeks i have over 1000 miles on her and she's running great.
Any other questions just ask away.
There were a couple guys on here having some probs... Any updates? Yous guys sorted out or what?
Awesome weather this past weekend. Took the rest of the epa bizznass off the bike. Checked my valve clearances as well, the intake was a tick loose, exhaust was spot on. I'm using Gardos .002/.004 and the bike runs great. Did a once over and everythings been staying good and tight. Alright gotta get back to the Bruins game! Later Heisters.
Here's some pics of the newly opened real estate under the tank. Check the trick crankcase vent and don't mind the squashed and dented pipe.

Picked up my bike on Saturday at PIT. The Weave was great, spent most of the day getting things sorted. Did the Weaver carb and pipe mods and took all the epa crap off the bike. Had to adjust the chain a few times, it kept chewing up the fender but I'm going to chop it anyway. Now I need to insure and register her.
Rode the bike Saturday for a little, hopefully everything breaks in and loosens up. It felt totally different than the bike I rode the first time at PIT. One thing I missed is I thought when you mount tires the dot goes opposite of the valve stem. Whoever mounted these was way off.
