Thumbs up guys, I like what y'all are doing with these Dong Bobbers.
Well while at O'riley's I had them give it a quick test, they said toast. but I think I may give it a charge anyway...but still am gonna buy a new one. maybe with some luck...which is much needed these past couple days, the old battery may have some life in it and I can store it and use it as a spare incase the next one fails down the road.

Its not plated so not sure where this was shot
I have never figured out..and probably will not cause I do not have it in me to abuse my bike.. how can you hold the front brake, and at the same time twist the throttle???
Pull the brake in and push down with your thumb against the throttle.I admit that I have done it in my youth. Now that I am older an just a smidge wiser,I don't do stuff like that.I care to much for my riding privlages to do burn outs, wheelies,or stoppies.Stoppies are unavoidable during panic stops sometimes.
Finally got the seat I ordered and now installed. Stock seat was angled to the left. Found it was the welded front bracket was off. No bending was going to correct without possibly cracking frame. The new seat was designed for a Harley. Using the stock seat frame, I fabricated a 6"x13" 16 gauge plate with a rear break at 90 degrees (for strength) Attached stock bolts thru bottom, then two bolts up into the new seat. Allowed a straight installation. Allows a natural angle sitting or at rest. Rides great.Attachment 5782Attachment 5783
GUN ROD,
Very nice looking seat. I bet it is comfortable.
Yes,
Light sand (chemical on head fins) 600
Prime high heat spray
Flat or gloss spray top coat
Does wear at contact points, I.E. heat shield bolt heads muffler pipe.
4 hours work.
Was worried about head but no issues, 250 miles.
Any plans to black out the spokes? I've heard they rust. My plan is to buy one in January. I love the all blacked out look or maybe an eclectic look for the bike. Make it look like it was just thrown together from parts lying around. Not sure yet but whatever I do it will be easier because of the information on this forum. Thanks.
Regarding spokes, due to the tubeless wheel design, powder coating process requires too much heat for the seals. Painting would wear. Rusting has been brought up by others but I have not noticed. If you keep your bike sheltered, wipe dry after being in rain and keep your dog from pissing on them, you should avoid rust. I wanted the dull black out look but realized that some small bits of chrome was a balanced look.
It must be tough waiting til January, will you have shipped or go thru a Dealer? Regarding modifications, take your time with each. The best are rear sprocket 35 (my 33 is extreme, I wish I did 35), battery improvement, jetting above 85, magnetic oil plug & handlebar/seat adjustment for your heigth and weight. Note most of us have an issue with neutral coming up to light. Holding the clutch in during the wait is a bitch. Hopefully it will break in to allow in the future. Fuel tank weld problems vary (causes fuel leaks), to be cautious don't torque down the bolts, use red lock tight.
Read the full post and you will be ready.
Yes Gun Rod, waiting till January is hard. ExpressATVs.com has them listed for $1895 plus shipping. I'll probably have it shipped to where I work so I can unload on the dock with a forklift. I'm a big guy, 280, so I'm on the fence about changing the rear sprocket. I basically want this bike to run around town on. I have a Suzuki gsx1100g that I regularly ride, so any long distance rides will probably be on the big boy bike. As long as I can get 55 out of it, I'll just have to feel it out. I must have a bright headlight so I plan on working on the Battery/Headlight, I've heard the stock light isn't very bright. I've heard that some of these bikes come with a 105 main jet? Hopefully I'll luck out on the tank. I contemplated selling some of my guns to buy this bike, but decided against it, I'll just have to wait.
Caution is advised with the RED locktite :
Apply heat to the bolt's head with a propane torch. If the area is next to a flammable storage, such as a gas tank, you still might be able to use a heat gun. The red and green strength Loctite generally will need some type of heat applied, above 400 degrees Fahrenheit, in order to melt the cured sealant. A wrench or impact can be used immediately while the bolt is still hot.
I bought some metric nylon lock nuts for my gas tank. Then I cut some small fuel line for spacers/isolators and DID NOT tighten the nuts beyond the locking part. So far so good.
In my over fifty years of fooling with bikes of all kind, I have never used lock tight. Just saying.
Do you have a original 45 Henry rifle or an English or Smith/Fox 16ga double barrel shotgun?
It will do 55, 75% power original sprocket no problem. Never ridden at night. I had no high or low beam when delivered. I saw the park light & was satisfied during break in safety checks. After a Harley guy yelled over at a light that I had an headlight issue, I checked & no lights at all! Barnone helped find that my wiring was not complete & got light control with the right handlebar switch. Haven't checked my jet yet, it runs at 80+ with the 33, probably has a 100+ jet. Spark is slightly amber in color, happy. High speed not worth the sprocket adjustment it makes at low speeds. Weak at start up, requires more RPM to get going. Clutch will suffer before long.
Barnone & Sr Mailman, probably right about red lock tight near fuel tank, but it breaks free for me. Note Dong uses on brake fixtures.
I must admit, great thread! Good information! I almost "pulled the trigger" last month on this when it was $2000. Now I see the price has jumped, bummer. I know a bunch more than I did last month, thanks to you guys. Like some of you, I'm not sure who to buy from. I guess they are all the same since they all come from the same warehouse, Scooterdepot?? It seems from reading all 140 pages last night and this morning that Scooterdepot has gotten there shit together as far as the paperwork end. That was my biggest concern. Any of you Texas boys had any problems doing the paperwork? Man, this going to be the first bike in 35 years for me... Can't wait.
killer motorsports , in Dallas , is where I ordered mine from , Tagged and plated it for me and 1000 miles + so far no problems other than rough roads popping rear running light (solved by splicing in led "self sticky strip" $17 autozone ) and bad voltage regulator on delivery , allowing voltage to spike to high popping headlight bulbs
alleycat,
I believe that all the DF Bobbers ship from

At least mine did when I bought it from Chad at http://www.extremescooters.biz/250cc...r-chopper.aspx last year.

I bought a battery from wally's ,I had to do some cutting on my battery box to get it to fit,and the mods are barberic..but they work for now..planning on making a bigger better battery box in the near future..but for now....
anyway,i do not understand why the batteyr has an exhaust tube on it?wtf? I looked at three different batteries from wally's,oriely and auto zone and all three were basically the same with this exhaust tube.
why would it have an exhaust tube...plus it has been throwing juice on the bike..and corrosive at that.

It is a motorcycle battery..it is the correct width, just a little over an 1/8 inch too tall thats why i had to cut the box. anyway..just wondering why it needs an exhaust tube?
The vent hose is to allow acid to overflow. Maybe you should have purchased a sealed battery.
passing electricity thru liquid makes hydrogen gas thus needing a pressure release , just zip tie the vent tube so its hanging 1" below the frame
and I wouldnt worry about fire issue's with a battery , you could direct short a single bat and just get the wires hot and kill the battery
BUT unique to electric only vehicles , direct short a BANK of 20 12v 50 amp batteries and the wiring covers would almost immediatly burst into flames , 240v 1000 amps (and this is an obscenly weak electric battery bank) why I would rather have a series hybrid , small engine generating enough electricity to run the vehicle @ 55-65 while having a tiny battery bank 3-5 batts to give it the umph to accelerate from stops , a good Series hybrid could drive cross county without ever needing to be "plugged in" and the fire/electrocution risk is all but removed
the biggest problem with self sustaining series hybrids being limited top speeds to maintain a strong charge , you can go faster but you would drain your batteries , but drive it like a moped limiting top speed to what the small 250-500CC engine is generating and its range is nearly limitless @ 60-90 mpg and car sized fuel tanks
Thanks DanDaMan
I've been worried to even leave the supplied charger on storage over night, it is a great set up for us northern 9 month season riders.
By the way, just got back from Amarillo for T-day with my family. Texas one great state.
Seems like this thread dropped off.
Really enjoyed reading all of it.
Ill be buying a DF Bobber in Late January 100% for a fact. cant wait. ;}
I think your gonna love it. I Love my ride. I am lucky enough to be able to ride year round living in Houston.Yeah it does get cold here some days..32 in the morning..sometimes colder.. probably when Jan and Feb roll around I will be catching a ride into work with the wifey..but overall still good weather year rond.
I think most of us besides aside from the weather, are putting a few miles on the bike and working out the bugs.Like this morning I noticed a strange sound in the motor..and found that the nuts holding the exhaust pipe to the head had rattled a bit loose.. just tightened them up and put some locktite on them.i plan on changing the nuts out I do not like the type they use.. had the same type on my scooter and was constantly tightening them..until i changed them. The roads in this area are very bumpy..all over and can rattle your teeth out..especially with the bike being a hardtail. but overall no issues thus far..knock on wood..
Has anyone had any issues with running out of gas? Seems the way the tank is designed..it does not pick up all the fuel..and I have found myself twice, needing to go to reserve to make it to the gas pump.I am thinking about a new tank..but posibly adding another pickup to the tank for the right side and run it into a "T" to mate with the left line. There is always about a little less than a gallon left in the tank when i fill up.been keeping tabs with the odometer..and I have been getting around 48 to 56 miles before i need to fill up..but again..still fuel in the tank.
gonna change the oil this weekend..and put in the magnetic drain plug I finally got.
On another note...anybody know anything about those LED light strips..can they be added to these bikes.. and is there anything I would need to do to the electrical system?Since the bike is black..I want to be seen a bit more at night.
