Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
hmm , today went to hop on bike n go fer a ride , and it only made an odd ticking noise , coming from under my seat
tracked it down and its a round electronic with hot/ground/+ another wire ( to starter switch on handlbars ? ) , believe it to be starter silonoid , I think
so I ended up getting my 77 GS 750 inspected and rode that instead : (

Wow, sharp. Has the Paughco design (curves under)with flavors of a Mustang tank. Tunnel width looks like a 3"width. How deep at front verses rear? What pepcock size? Have you decided on cap type?

Caps that I have are just plain chrome. I think the tunnel is 3" but will have to check. Not sure about the petcock size. I happen to have one off my old Harley that is too big. I'll just take the tank to a local Harley shop to size it.

I bet it is the battery. The stock one is a POS and don't get the exact replacement because it is also a POS. I ended up with one of these
http://www.batterystuff.com/powerspo...09A2-BS12.html
which is expensive. I cut the battery box so there was plenty of clearance around the battery terminals.
Walmart has a decent battery but it is too tall. A few post back someone was going to just cut the top off the battery box to make it fit which I think is a good idea because it is a pain to get to the terminals as is anyway.

Jump it off your car. I'm still betting on a bad battery.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information

Yeah that was me..I had to cut the box up and modify the swing door, and it works fine..doesn't look all that great, but I am gonna have the fab shop at work make me another box a little bigger and look a little better so I can put just about any battery in it.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
On the subject of batteries, this battery box is a pain in the ass. I had to unbolt the exhaust from the rear and move it down, unbolt the rear brake master cly, move it forward. You think they would have made it bigger or moved the battery box back some...
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I noticed while getting mine ready, that my tank smelled of gas, the stock plug was really black and the rear brake rotor has some wear marks on it.
Scooterdepot must be running these prior to shipping. The front rotor, tires and everything else is in "mint" condition. Its like they ran it on a jack stand and then hit the rear brake to stop it. Just an observation...
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Well my bike is legal now, brand new Texas tag! I going to take her out this morning. High today about 79, wind is 3mph. Going to be a great day here in South Texas.

The times I removed the battery box it came right out without removing any other parts.

Did your DF come in the factory crate with the handlebars and forward controls off? Was the battery installed?
I bet you got a returned and/or used bike.

You live in a great part of Texas. I grew up in Houston.
Have a nice first ride.

Thanks, will do. I did a lot of my growing up in Virginia. Went fishing every couple of weekends at Nags Head, and we vacationed once a year in Fort Myers Beach.

Wow, at first glance, it looked like it was tack welded to the frame. I now see it had a bracket on it. Bummer, kinda feel like an idiot, LOL.
Live and learn, thats what I get for trying to work at night in a dim garage...

I'm pretty good at spotting "returns", big part of my business. It was out of the factory crate, every thing was bubble wrapped, tie strapped and covered in what I call "crate dust" from sitting in warehouses for a while. This one had never been on the road.

Fine but I doubt that scooterdepot would uncrate the bike, run it, and recrate it. Someone put gasoline in the tank and ran it if what you say is true.
Scooterdepo is like all the other drop shipper and never see the bikes. They are shipped out of SUNNY POWERSPORTS INC. , the wholesaler.
I have uncreated about 6 Chinese vehicles and none has any sign of gasoline in them.
Did it have oil in it? Almost all DF250RTB come with very little oil in them. The owner's manual says to add oil before running.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Has anyone found a replacement for the gas cap? I'v looked but our tank inlet is not common. I'm running out of hair brads & not looking forward to another vapor lock in traffic. Tank change is not cheap.

Gun Rod, cheap is relative but lowbrow has a number of tanks with the bungs already welded in that have either American filler tops, or bayonet twist style for under a 150 USD that should work on the DF250RTB http://www.lowbrowcustoms.com/index....rice:desc&m=33
Alleycat maybe you got my return LOL also just an FYI Sunny Powersports INC is Scooter depot under a different name for distribution and due to suits against the company

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Sunny Sports lists scooterdepot as its website. Here's the LA BBB listing which I had read before ordering...

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
All in all guys, I very happy with my purchase! I took a short spin around the neighborhood today, drives like a dream to me. I had no problem finding neutral with the engine off or running like other had stated. Neutral is just a half click up. I think the mirrors need to be changed out, don't seem to have enough adjustment. Mine had 0.1 miles on it out of the crate.

Glad you like your DF. What do you mean that the mirrors don't have enough adjustment? Didn't the PDI catch that?:rolleyes1:

I guess I'm trying to adjust them like a car. Mine seem fixed on the mirror arm, the arms can be move forward or back, then locked with the nut.
No movement up or down. Maybe adjust the handle bars up or down? I was thinking I might try some that woud have a ball joint between the mirror and arm.
Right now that kinda look lower toward the road.

i had the same problem with my stock mirrors at first, you'll need to grab the mirrors and twist them like you're trying to unscrew the mirror from the post and they will loosen up and you'll be able to adjust them up down left and right.

Ah, thanks. I knew something did seem right. They left that out of the "manual" LOL.

I didn't get the "free" tool kit either, LOL.

Looks like they got My "complaint"
Advertising/Sales Issues View Details Additional Notes
Complaint: 11/28/2011: I contacted Sunny Sports almost once a week, since I tried to register the motorcycle and thought they were trying to resolve the problem with CT. MVD. For the past two weeks, they put Me on hold and then give Me one of the three standard phone excuses (the party is away from their desk,in a meeting, or in the warehouse). When I leave My name and phone number, they NEVER return My calls. Their advertising is very misleading and in My opinion is false. I am not a satisfied customer.
Business response: The manufacturer for the bike that the customer ordered is on the federal list, so if he goes by the manufacturer he should be able to register his bike. I m not showing any other registration issues in his state, cause if there were we would not be able to sell for his state. The bike he purchased would be listed as a can't sell in his state. We also offer the customer registration through us at an extra $140.00 plus taxes. We are more than willing to help out this customer but the last contact we had from him was on 08/21/11 and no other issues reported since then.
