Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
well guess what... my freakin clutch cable snapped for a third time. this time I think I found the problem i have been having. the inside of the clutch lever is worn away so i think it has been slowly cutting the cable as i ride and shift. O.K. no problem I have been trying to figure out why my lever is so loose anyway..as it moves up and down and I have tightened and tightened it over and over but it still stays sloppy. so i think I am going to purchase another new clutch lever assembly.

Now my question to anyone who can answer this... what are these two wires for on the assembly for the clutch lever??

thanks ahead...

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Guessing brake light- or safety switch (bike won't start unless engaged). Still don't have one of these bikes yet, expecting a Heist next month fingers crossed.

WTF.... CARB= California Air Resources Board... all late model commercial trucks have to have the CARB label affixed to be legal to operate as well, I think we could give California back to Mexico and be better off... My bike is NOT CARB compliant and I don't give a F**k....

We use this hose to drain the fuel bowl when removing the carberator to be worked on, such as replacing jets. The fuel bowl holds 2-3oz of gas. it easier to drain it first. Turn the petcock off at the gas tank, then take a clean small cup or can, pull the hose out from where it is and place it in the cup. Open the fuel drain screw on the side of the fuel bowl. Don't forget to close the screw once drained. Pour the cup back in the gas tank.

This is why (since 2008 in this state) I could NOT register & Title a RTB250 in this state and probably why in CA, PA, NJ and any other state that will not register them.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Wow, I'm always googling both Tha Heist and DF250RTB. Just found a post by Gardo that surprised me. He's always been pretty cool about the differences between the bikes. This was pretty harsh IMO.

That was the Friggin Bike that I had to send back to Scooter depot. They are Horrible!
the bike was garbage and not legal to register in my state of NJ. i heard that it also may not be legal in NY, and PA.
Yeah it looked great but the company also lost their NHTSA registration in 2004. Even though it was stamped EPA there is no cat or baffle in the tank. the manifold breathes into a plastic electrical box and the bike is geared at 13 front and 45 rear sprocket. the levers were all made of cheap pot metal and snapped easy, and is a 30mm carb with an 88 mainjet.
All these companies that have this bobber are gettin them from Sunny Motor sports, who is Scooter Depot and a few other names Happy Scooter and such. they are distributing them out.
I know of 2 people in FL that have the bike and was able to register it there, not anywhere else though. No one really has come forward. of the 2 people. 1 guy has been reworking the bike completely to get it running right and he's done an awesome job of it. The Bike is performing for him, but he's had to spend a lot of time and trial and error to get it right.
I couldn't get parts for a few items that were broken absolutely no parts support at all, and my rear tire was constantly going flat.
I know a cat in NYC that got one and his engine threw a rod and the company will not take it back. And the da** thing from sitting all the chrome rusted out
It was because that debacle that i ended up buying a Heist. and well the rest is history. Having owned both bikes I can honestly say that the CCW tha Heist is the better bike but its also 1000.00 bucks more.IMO its worth it. At least with the Heist you have a strong support system in place and a better bike.
FYI 500 miles on my Heist already and she is running strong.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
as far as i am concerned about what Gardo says, it is all am matter of choice. I have had nothing out of whack with this bike that cannot be fixed. remeber you get what you pay for. I stand behind my bike.. and I love it. yeah if I had the extra grand to spend..I may have gone after the heist. but honestly.. it would have had the same issues somewhere down the line...all bikes do. something fails..something breaks.. something doesn;t work right.. so it is the buyers call to get what they want.
Mine was no trouble at all to tag..easy peasy.some states are just a pain in the neck.not the dealers fault where someone lives.
also to add... I have just under 4ooo miles on my bike.. and probalbly the roughest worst roads in the states to ride on. and the small things that are occuring to it over all those miles are just a little set back.. to me.. and nothing to get pissed about. maybe I am easy going..and do not let it get to me..and others may let every little thing bother them.. but honestly it is still a good bike for the money.

Any who, I've seen a few CCW bikes riding around here, but I like my little s**t Dong Fang. I put it together, I made sure it worked, and best of all, I was able to register it with absolutely NO problems. The only problem I had was that they registered the bike costing $2500... But the gov mofia always needs it's money..

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Yeah, I guess Gardo's statements in that post took me by surprise as i'd never heard him go off on it like that. It's been mostly that he couldn't register it.
I almost owned a Heist last week but the dealer pulled a fast one on me. Sometimes I'm glad I have eagle eyes. Though I will still be getting a Heist, I almost went for the DF and it was what I found first online- the bike and this forum. There are a few reasons I wanted the DF- clearly the cost for one. Part of me likes the fact it's got black rims and engines covers as Florida sucks the life out of chrome. Painted rims easy to touch up over rusting chrome. Part of me liked the fact it was so cheap I would feel less guilty tearing into it :) a project bike. I wasn't looking forward to the possible gas tank leak though. I was seconds away from ordering the DF a few days ago when the Universe suddenly allowed me to try for another Heist. I'd love to own both actually. Just don't know what I could sell around the home for that money.

I have over 13000 miles on my Heist. the Widow has been nothing but good to be some small issues from time to time but nothing some time in the garage didn't correct. Hell back in march I rode it from outside NYC to Daytona FL for Trailer Week...er Bike Week (lol) and back, 3000 mile round trip. Two weekends ago I rode up to Cleveland OH. In comparison 95 is so much better a road than Rt 80

I do love how that exhaust is routed. I would love to be able to use my kick start, something to think about in the future.

O.K. so my next question is.. do I really need the switch at all. I have only found a replacement Honda (used) lever with a switch on it. But have found tons of others without the switch. I have a habbit of putting the bike in neutral before i start it.. and honestly..does the switch even work.
We the cable broke.. I attempted to start it in gear.. and it would but then stall... I fianlly started it in neuatral.. rolled it a bit while on it..and kicked it into first and she rode off ..luckily I was only a couple blocks from the house, so i rode in first until I got home with it.
So again I ask.. do I really need the switch?

Use a jumper between the two wires and you can ride.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Very cool.
In my wonderings looking for this clutch lever... I ran across a place called http://gokartsusa.com/Tha-Heist-Bobb...ent-Parts.aspx
They have all kinds of parts for the heist. I was wondering.. do these parts work with this bobber. I tend to think they arer about the same bike.. are they? I see discussions all over .. and maybe Gardo would know seeing as how he has both.
I think it would be real cool if these parts were interchangable.. but I do not want to just purchase based on trial and error.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I almost have my bike complied here in New Zealand. They just require one more form a PDI pre delivery inspection report. A checklist from factory to say all was checked ok before delivery. Has anybody received anything like this with delivery of their bike. I will try contacting the factory but I think that will be a long shot, might have to get creative with making one

It's got that Johnny Pag vibe going on. He uses parallel twins as I recall. I'd like to see that pint sized v-twin in a Mistfit platform.

Here is the engine. The clutch actuation is different and that motor mount, on the side, is not used on the Yamaha. (A clone of a 20 year old design is what this is)

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
ok. so an update... i found an 08 ninja 250, 30 miles from my house. the price was too good to pass up at $2400 and only 4500 miles! the ninja was my first choice, and i just got back from riding it home. with a few stops along the way my 30 miles home turned into 65. i think theres a permanent smile on face that will last quite a while. and i can verify that the ninja 250 has enough power for everyday commuting. all those that say its too slow has obviously never ridden one. the only thing that could be nicer is the wind will push you around a bit. but nothing too serious. i found myself leaning into the wind to keep it straight a few times at 60mph.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
OK - got the Fang tagged today in the great state of Georgia - took only a few minutes - no problem. Kreeming the tank this weekend - alteady removed the smog pump & silver stripes and moved the ignition/ key slot ... getting there... actually think fixing these things are fun and part of the deal - as long as you take your time - or maybe it is because I have a beer or 2 at hand, that makes it easy..... anyway so far I am having fun..
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
re removing your stripes, does your bike have matt or gloss finish paint ? My bike is silver and looks like there is clear coat over the stripes.
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
My bike started out silver with the red stripes. I was able to easily remove them from the rear fender with my finger nail, took a little more effort on the tank and front fender. There was clear coat over them, so there are ridges once they are removed. I wanted the matte black but got a discount on the silver, so I sanded everything down past the clear coat, then used dull black engine paint to get what I wanted. I use a fabric covered rubber band under the fuel cover, and I wipe off any spills when I fill up. The paint has held up great, and the only protector I used was turtle wax.

Ceramic Break Pads?
Does anyone know of a manufacturer makes ceramic breaks, or any upgrade pads, for our bike? I've found that these pads get really dirty real fast, and with the dusty environment and hot summers we have here in Vegas, I noticed progressively worsening break shuddering over time. When I blast all the break dust with break cleaner the break grip smooths out.
Also, are Hiest pads the same as Dong Fangs?

Re: Ceramic Break Pads?
for anyone thats been riding their df lately, watch out for the cheap material of metal they use on the sprocket studs, them things broke off on my on the HWY! went to home depot and made my own studs with much better quality bolts. so far 8k miles on my df and still running like a boss, 60+mpg ftw
heres what I'm talking about btw
