Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Went shopping with slabo last week, he went for the XY200GY-7 - I went for the X2 in Supermoto trim. :deal:
The dealer has no idea what they are selling, so have to wait what commes out of the box.
Information on the differences between the Enduro and Supermoto are hard to get, so far I'm certain that the wheels (rims & tires) are different. Others I will compare with the Enduro XY250GY-2 in the shop. Ohhh and the price, the Supermoto is 1000RMB more, lets see what I get for...
I contacted user shineray from this forum, he send me an english manual already. I'm looking for more infos for the Honda NX250 derived engine and a smaller KTM regarding suspension and drivetrain - seems these are suitable reference points.
Now it means waiting, delivery time is less the 40 days, but they dont know the details. No big deal I will leave next week and be back only in May, by then it should be ready.
When delivery is there I will keep this thread updated...
-
Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Update: the 40 days were just a guess by the dealer - as stated earlier "They have no clue..."
Called them in between for updated delivery time, last call was yesterday same answer: "Delivery will be befor the 40 days, but when we dont know"
Today a very excited Mr Li called, the bike arrived. A pity I left already, so it need to spend few more days in the warehouse.
Summary:
1. the delivery time for the XY250GY-2 is 2 weeks only,
2. the stated 40 days - 6 weeks delivery time is just a safety caution of the dealer because see 3.
3. the dealers have no access to a track & trace system, dont bother them, they are as clueless as you
I will be back in May...update then

Better now, sorry did not notice pics were too big.

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
picked up the bike yesterday and drove it home 20km. Its waiting in the garden for the afternoon ride.
I will take some pictures later.
As we picked it up - slabo joined to fix some issues - one guy with a XY250-GY 2 in Enduro trim showed up, it was recently registered with 800km on it and he said no pain at all. For him no problems so far.
out riding now :dirtbike:

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Thats what I found after arrival it was sitting there for 3 weeks already:
http://i43.tinypic.com/2isjf5c.jpg
The bike after assembly at the shop
http://i44.tinypic.com/2c0ilv.jpg
The registration of the other guy - question was where to fix the front license plate:
http://i42.tinypic.com/99mfc0.jpg
we found an answer...
The afternoon ride, stop at a small reservoir just west of Kunming, ideal place to pitch your tent:
http://i44.tinypic.com/2ppnaxj.jpg
http://i40.tinypic.com/2yoomqq.jpg
http://i42.tinypic.com/243j95c.jpg
I went over it with the wrench to fix the screws, so far nothing lost...but nearly, after initial round in front of the
shop a screw of the engine was nealy gone. Next thing, get Loctide and go over it again.
It rides quiete smooth, made 100km today in a loop around Kunming. Some problems came up:
- the rear brake cylinder is leaking! - back to the shop ASAP
http://i44.tinypic.com/24mrqe1.jpg
- some of the wire harness in the front mask is quite shabby routed - need to re-route
- the location of the rear brake pedal is not suitable for me, adjustment is already at max. need to find a adjustable replacement part
http://i41.tinypic.com/orjcbd.jpg
The Fastace rearshock is fully adjustable - great, still need to play with it a bit to find the ideal setting, thats part of the fun...
http://i42.tinypic.com/inc2hk.jpg
The front is also fully adjustable, but you cant reach it with normal tools, the handlebar blocks it :confused1:
will need to sacrifice a screwdriver
http://i44.tinypic.com/ra5jex.jpg
Some small dents in the cooling surface, no leakage...its stilll a Chinese bike assembled by Chinese craftsmens :rolleyes1:
http://i41.tinypic.com/160od3c.jpg
The handlebars need to come up - some risers are on the shopping list too
The seat is okay for what I did today - lets see how it handles longer rounds.
Besides these I want add some other things - will surely not follow in Pfaelzers  steps.
'Workshop' facilities are limited, but lets see what I can squeeze out of the Kunmingnese craftmans. :icon10: :bling:
- Handguards - maybe something similar as slabo has on his XY200GY-7
- Engine protection, alloy or stainless? Any opinions on that?
- Some luggage racks & cases - I liked the attempt of ChinaV for the Galaxys, will look into this.
@Franki & ChinaV if you pass through Kunming on your trip give me a shout, would like to have a look on your
tinkered out Galaxy. Will have some cold ones ready for sure...:goodtime: :kumbaya:

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Sorry guys, I will use this just as my private notepad on all bike related things I dig out :mwink:
Here is what the factory cant provide - a parts list:
http://translate.google.com.hk/trans...&sl=auto&tl=en
Nice and informative Homepage on the bike, engine improvement, confirmed exchange parts with KTM, lots of specs...
These guys in Sweden (not Norway) race the X2 and have some upgrades up there sleves.

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Hi andree555,
nice bike you got there. No need at all to follow my footprint in spending a fortune of time and money to pep up a chinese bike. What I am interested in would be a comparison between your bike and the Galaxy XTR250. Anyone out there, who can tell more about the difference. Based on the look, the Shineray seems to be bigger and more suitable for an adventure bike rather than the Galaxy, which seems to be more on the track side.
Hope to hear more from you on your Shineray explorations .
Cheers,
AW.

I recommend definetly get those new hand guards which include protection to clutch and brake levers.
About engine guard, your bike is light so it wont need heavy protection. Light alloy should also keep it lighter than it would be with stainless steel guard. It depends how you drive and where you drive. You are not a race driver so it don't have to be that light, but on the other hand you probably wont drive your bike hard on the rocks where steel guard could give more protection. A choise between maximum* security and slightly better performance. Chose one fitting you best.
* Edit: better security, not maximum security.

Hi Pfaelzer,
love to see what you did and do on the Jialing. I will do things as they come up, first get registration fixed to be leagl, fix the issues the shop is able to and see how they repond to other requierements...

Regarding the size of the Shineray, you are:right its much more a full size bike then the Galaxy. I have seen the Galaxy too but went for the Shineray as it's just a different size, I'm bit taller and enjoy the Chinese food, so the 'fullsize' of the Shineray was the selling point. Besides it also looks good :bling:
Not much Info available on it, especially on legallity in China. Most users here are more into the Galaxy, its proven legal, performs and if I had the factory at my doorsteps I would have probably went the same way :naughty:
Lets see how it holds up - cross the fingers, I will also light some incense the temples I pass

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Andre, I saw you have changed super moto tyres and wheels on your bike. I haven't ever tried that kind of configuration but I have been very curious how is it. What fascinates me is the increased tarmac performance but what turns me off is decreased dirt and off-road performance. But since most of the time I will be spending time in Tarmac anyway, I wonder would it be worth it. It has not become a popular choise to use super moto tires, maybe because bikers are conservative? This makes me puzzled, would need to try them myself but I don't want to spend money in them in vain if they would be disappointing after initial woo! factor enthusiasm wears off.

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
This would have been such an improvement in offering over what Shineray sends via importers to the US (as there is no official Shineray importer). However, as much as we were teased and waited with fingers crossed, we ended up with the Shuopu Science 250 via Pitster Pro, but it would be nice if the next wave of Chinese bikes here in the US consisted of this class of bike. We got the Qingqi to start the next wave, the Hensim 250 is available as a superior offering over the standard GY 200 s at around the same price if low price is what will attract you, but it would be nice to get Galaxy's offerings here and this Shineray. Time will tell...

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
andre555,
Glad China V and I are both wrong and this Shineray 250 in Motard form can be registered! :rolleyes1: A few questions and requests.....
1. Does the bike have a CCC sticker somewhere on it?
2. How much did you pay?
3. Could you put thousands of abusive kms on the bike this bike over the summer and log the problems honestly so others (including me) can decide is this bike is right for us?! :naughty: (looks as though you are doing this already...so thanks)

Hi ZMC888,
1. Yes the bike has a CCC not just a sticker but its on the ID plate together with all relevant numbers.

http://img5.glowfoto.com/images/2010...414428736T.jpg
The details about the CCC I posted here -->
http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...ughts.../page5 .
Here are pics of the CCC english and chinese.
http://img5.glowfoto.com/images/2010...406053067T.jpg
http://img5.glowfoto.com/images/2010...410454904T.jpg
Here is the engine type 170MM:
http://img6.glowfoto.com/images/2010...438507449T.jpg
Not sure what this label is for, its only normal paper, probably some more details to ID the engine in
warranty case. Anyway but took a pic for the archive as the paper thing will be gone after the first
rain or wash.
http://img5.glowfoto.com/images/2010...422488362T.jpg
2. The price was listprice, no negotiaten - 16.800 for Supermoto, Enduro is 15.800 less, Track
version no lights, no registration is 14.800RMB all prices incl. Tax & FaPiao.
They have now more bikes in the shop and priced them 1.000 higher, so new "Shopprice" is
17.800 RMB, just to give them room for negotiations as everybody wants to make a good deal
and bargain them 1000 down makes you feel soo good. Guess the factory is trying to
keep the prices up for these bikes as there is not much comparable in the market anyhow.
3. Will keep you guys posted, getting more people into it makes it easier with parts, maintenance,
tips & tricks and so on, so its in my interest as well...

SAME SAME - several reasons
1. I like the high riding position of the Supermoto to keep the overview, which is quiete a advantage in Chinese traffic!
2. Like the option to get me 2nd set of wheels for the dirt if I get ambitious, but right now I'm 95% on road.
3. These Chinese roads here are sometimes very rough so the setup of a Enduro with excellent springs/shockabsorbers is very nice. Speedbumbs? Just cruise over them, the bike eats them up like the road is a flat autobahn.
4. The dry sand/gravel trail can still be done, maybe not soo speedy, more relaxed.
5. The seathight of the bike is around 30mm less with the Supermoto setup, due to the smaller diameter of the rims/tires easier to handle in the town, but still towering high compared to farmer Wang's Wuliang Honda 125

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Sweet looking bike Andre! You chose the best color and with a luggage rack, you're ready to head for the mountains!
If they can make this old AX-1/NX250 engine work out well I think it had a chance to be the strongest of all C-Motos.
Wonder if putting an old AX-1 carb on there would work?

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Nice bike, Andre. I have a question about the headlight bulb. I have the same set up on my Qlink now and it came with a 35w bulb. I know that the wiring will handle a 65w but not sure about the lens as it's plastic. Do you know what watt yours came with?

Ah, glad I got this problem solved after putting some serious thinking on it. For me SM tyres are no no because streets are not for racing, but when I go off-road race on can be applied at wish, and there I rather use the better tyres. Street enduro tyres are good enough for tarmac and better for bad conditions than SM tyres, and street enduro tyres are also cheaper, and you can anytime put some serious knobbies on them.

Hi David, according to the documentation its 35W as well. I didnt took it apart these days, will check if I take it off next time.

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Okay time for an update: ITS FUN and I start to prefer it over the car to make my small runs in town...
Its leagal now: http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1892
I was at the shop again, mind you there are two shops in the street, one caters to the normal Shineray Bikes, one dedicated only to the 200cc and bigger - the Toys Shop.
Changed oil, adjusted some things, fixed the leakage at the cooling liquid reservoir, some cable rerouting...
The rear brake lever can not be adjusted, so I need to find a replacement part.
The handlebar is fine for on the road riding, but If I (1.98cm) stand on the pegs on a bad road its too low. Need to replace the handlebar or use some risers, maybe both... I learned from ChinaV that the parts from Galaxy will fit here as well.

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Just found that Shineray updated their homepage. they added a service section with Parts Lists, Part Numbers, Explosive Diagramms...so far not for the XY250GY-2 - but looks promissing

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Update
Not too many riding these days...short trips around Kunming and the night rides to the WorldCup Games. Only 600km so far.
I changed the spring in the rear suspension, original is rated at 450lb/in. The factory writes in their KTM based documentation that this steup is for a rider of 70kg. I contacted the Factory, they say no need to change, I feelt otherwise.
Contacted Fastace, the manufacturer of the suspension assembly. Relativly easy to deal with, all via skype. They have suitable spring rated at 500lb/in. Changed and its much better, even without additional load! STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!
The handlebar was way too low for me. As the "Rewarding us with Punishment" Crew came through town I have seen the Ape Hangers on ChinaV's ride. He got me some together with Handguards - perfect fit!
Higher Handlebar more comforatbale and handguards saved me in a small spill already!
Today I run into problems with dirt in the carburator. The guy from the shop came to my home (30km :eekers:) and cleaned it throughly
Strongly recommended to install a fuel filter! If not dont use reserve, rather top up more often!
Put on a socket to power the GPS. GPS Holder from RAM Mounts available through taobao. Nice fit and should help during the upcomming ride to Tibetan Sichuan.
Changed the oil twice so far. The guys in the shop were surprised how bad the oil was after each only 300km change. Replaced the wiremesh with a real oilfilter at the last change and added a drain plug with magnet. Also changed the sparkplug to a NGK Iridium. All parts refernced to the Honda NX250 - all perfect fit!
CHANGE THE OIL REGULAR!!! CHANGE THE OILFILTER!!!
The subframe around the engine is painted with some very poor quality stuff! A goldish colour shines through already, same on the trippleclamps of the front fork. Maybe some childrens waterpaint applied here :rolleyes1:
Summary:
I like it! Its 1/10 of a BMW in China - so certain issues are accepted. So far nothing serious. The guys in the shop are bloddy lazy, you really have to push them hard.
Still, I would not buy it if it wouldnt be for the "China Situation" many of us are in.
-
Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Thanks for the update andre555 all very usefull information. Where is the oil filter located on this bike? Is it external or is it behind an engine case?

Oil Filter is behind a seperate cover with 3 screws - get the Honda NX250/AX1 manual before you head of for your adventure. Download is available on ADVrider
I put on some more km in the Tibetan areas of Yunnan and Sichuan. The bike holds up very well and you can push with the road tires very hard on dry dirt roads. Hurt some Prado's and Range Rover owners and added to thier maintenance bills. :naughty:
I didnt added the fuel filter yet, so ran into the same problem again as the fuel tank is small for long distances in remote areas. No big problem the carb is redundant, If the main jet is blocked just drive on the choke jet. Seems the jets are similar sized.
Met some Chinese riders on Jialing 600 around KangDing, we had a blast together the last 50km into town as that was the best road in the whole area (covered 1500km). I definetly prefered the X2's easy handling for the bad but stunning roads in this part of China.

How did the bike go at altitude? did you need to rejet?
Can we get a larger fuel tank? Maybe can add those axuliary fuel tank that sit over the rear guard of bikes.
-
Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
You have one? How is the expierence so far?
Altitude no problem - lost a bit of power but still going strong! I was bit surprised after ChinaV and Felix complained about "2hp" feeling up there.
Highest altitude was above 4700m, and several days above 4000m around Litang. No rejeting.
I topped the bike on a strech before Zhongdian/Shangrila at 110km/h at an altitude of 3200m.
Havent tried the factory for a larger fuel tank, but guess the response will not help...
I'm sure there are aftermarket tanks from other (Japanese/Austrian) bikes could fit as everything on the bike is inspiered
somewhere else. Just need a place where lots of them available for try and error. Maybe something available on taobao,
but my Chinese is not enough for that.
Auxilary fuel tank can definetly work.

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
i would love to get my hands on one here, (and be street legal in CA.)
Ive been riding the my 200 here for more than a year (it's a used 06) and its been trouble free for more than 2k miles. i would love to have a larger Shine though

Re: Shineray XY250GY-2 (aka X2)
Not to make you feel bad, but good luck with Kalivornia! There were some '06 Jetmotos and the like street registered in Cali, so you should consider yourself lucky. Then again, JP Motorsports out of San Diego used to get the old Qlink dual sport (the Zongshen 200 XRanger) registered in California, and have gotten many of the new Qlink XF/XP (Qingqi) 200s registered in California. I have spoken to them about carrying the new line of Pitster Pro full-size bikes so I could finance them (believe it or not, but I am still considering one of the last of the orange Qlink XF200's just for the financing), but since I live in Arizona, whether the bikes could be registered in Cal. is not an issue with me. You might see the Shineray 250 bikes registered, however, if things move in the direction I think they are moving--I do think that JP Motors will carry them if you are willing to go to S. California to pick it up ;)
