FYI,
CFMoto is issuing a recall on scooters models produced between 2005 and 2009 with no right-side, rear-wheel foot brakes.
Recall is expected to begin around July 1, 2010.

02-10-2010, 08:30 PMHonda had the pre-production prototypes of their automatic motorcycle, the DN-01, on show without foot brake pedal. Being an automatic they had all the controls on the handlebars, like a scooter. The production models came out with foot brake to comply with this law. I don't understand this. The recall notice calls the bikes "scooters" and as such they can have both brakes on the bars. All other scooters have.
How did they manage to homologate them for use all over the world, including the US, where they've been on sale for years?. If it was a Government department oversight they should have to live with it.Jincheng Monkey JC50Q-7

Doesn't make much sense to me either. If a hand brake is okay for the front, why not for the rear? Maybe it because the CFMotos are really scootercycles. They look like a regular cruiser but really they aren't since the use a scooter engine. Not sure what the technical differences between "scooter" and "motorcycle" are. Maybe it's the transmission? But that still wouldn't make sense in the case of CFMoto. I'm sure they have some reason but it's likely not good!

Forchetto,
Talked to a guy from CFMoto today at the Dealer Expo here in the US. He said having the gas tank above the legs is what classifies it as a motorcycle. People will not have to act on the recall, but they need to offer the retrofit anyway. It had to be some crazy regulation right?
