You could do something older in a two stroke. The Suzuki DR bikes are smaller simple single cylinder air cooled engines. They range from 200cc to 650cc.The Suzuki DRZ is a water cooled engine so those would be out for simplicity. Also, have a snoop around here. They may even be info in here on the engine that the DF is based off of. http://www.thumpertalk.com/

Correct me if im wrong but i believe two stroke engines are illegal on motorcycles over 50cc shooters. For some reason i think thata why we could never get the old kawi gpz 250. Found a bunch of cb 350 engines

Technically that is correct.Depending on your state and it's emissions laws, you could put a 2 stroke into a bike that is registered and tagged for legal road use.I'm not saying it will be legal, but if there is no one checking......CB would be a good engine to use.

our engine is based on the old honda CG 125 , bored out , even believe a Honda rebel 250 is a direct bolt in fit , perhaps the rebel 450 is also or any small honda motor ?

although I dont see the point unless your 200+lbs the bike will do 80 when finally get the gears situated

I have 800 miles on mine , ride it on hour long highway trips 2 times a week , actually thats the only reason I got it , because my 77 GS 750 was suking more gas than my GF's 6 cyl mustang (about 23 mpg) , the Dong gets 60 mpg running at 75 , 160 lb rider and Texas flatlands , geared for 86 mph max top gear redline

Thanks for the info Dan. So what sprocket setup are you running and wgat all performance wise has been done. Other tgan the fact of having about 5-10 hp more its not really worth all the hassle fir a power transplant? Im also sorry for my horrible punctuation typing all of this on my Droid.

    mo bobber,
DanDaMan has a different bike than the DF bobber (DF250RTB) that we are discussing in this thread.

Stock on the DF is 13/45 which is way too low. Since the DF has a 520 chain you can't change the front sprocket with out doing some major grinding so we change the rear.

Most are running the 35 tooth rear on the DF bobber. I run a 38 tooth rear here in the mountains of NC and have run a 33 tooth rear in flat Florida which I will probably switch back to when I go to FL for the winter. The 35 seems to be a good compromise for most.

http://www.oldbikebarn.com/Motorcycl...?search=JTR279 but they were out of the 35. I found one on Ebay for a guy here.
Springfield is pretty flat and if you are not too heavy you might want to try the 33 tooth. part numbers run JTR279.33, JTR279.35, or JTR279.38

Better check with the MO registration office to see if you can title/tag the DF250RTB before you order one.
No go in CA,NJ,and PA for sure.
