#1 Valve Clearance Adjustment - XY200GY Shineray07-12-2008, 02:47 AM
Hi All,
I want to adjust the valve clearances (tappets) on my Shineray XY200GY and I've got a few of questions.
- Can anyone tell me if you can get the valve cover off the top of the motor without removing the whole engine from the frame?
- What are the valve clearances?
- Are they done when the motor is hot or cold?
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give,
Cheers,
Robbie

Wozzle,
1) I would be very surprised if you have to take the engine out of the frame to adjust the valves. You should be able to take the valve cover off no problem but will have to remove the seat, side panels and gas tank. After that, you should have plenty of room to play with the engine.
2) Not sure what the valve clearances are for your particular bike but if you have an owners manual (which should have come with the bike) it should say so in there.
3) Valve adjustments should be done with the motor cold.
One great thing about the Chinese bikes is they are really easy to work on and learn how to wrench. Give it a shot and let us know if there are any problems.
Some pictures never hurt either!

Carl,
I too was surprised when I couldn't manipulate the cover off because the frame was too close. The top of the cover/engine is about 1cm from the frame.
Someone has said to me that you have to have the valves in just the right position (obviously all the way down) to get it off but I haven't had the time to check that out yet.
I was just wondering if anyone else had come across this.
Cheers,
Robbie

Yes, the Viva is like this. What I had to do, was pull the fuel tank. This gave me lots of room. Than I had to fudge aound abit, and it came out. Seems if you turn to motor over til the intake valve drops you can clear the intake valve. Than pull it out and to right till it hits the exhaust valve do the same as you did with the intake, and it will come out.
To adjust the valves, you need to remove the flat head screw on the top of the stator cover. Remove spark plug, and slowly turn the motor over till you see the TDC mark on the flywheel, than adjust your valves to spec.
Installation, just reverse the directions.
Now the Jet-Tah, I undid the 3 cover bolts, and the cover came off. No idea what was up with that though..What the h@!! is an Aluminum Falcon?
