Yes, you certainly did miss something in Beijing. You can ride 30 minutes to the east, north or west and be in twisty road heaven. Not making this up. Oh, and about those mountains. There is at least one peak inside Beijing municipal limits that is 3000m high. You could look it up. The price you pay is insanely bad pollution and traffic and other problems in the city, but compared to Shanghai, Beijing is motorcycle heaven.

    cheers!
Well I had a quick look all I could find was highest peak was 2200mtrs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography_of_Beijing

Flying into Beijing I could see no big snow capped mountain ranges in summer.Fly into Urumqi you will get an idea of big snow capped mountain range its called the Tian shan it runs the breadth of Xinjaing up into Kazakhstan.

Have a look at roadrunners RR the part where he crossed the Tian shan. That's remote.

But I guess we all think where we live has some of the best riding in China.Strangely enough I think Xinjiang has the best riding 20 minutes I am in the mountains 30 minutes and I am in the Gobi desert that stretches way up to the Russian border. Now that's remote.

Head east and your into the Karakorum mountain range the highway into Pakistan from Xinjiang is quite rightly described as the most scenic in the world.

Your more than welcome to come up and have a look.

No doubt it's probably very scenic over there, however in terms of mountain roads and twisties is the asphalt over there better than in BJ too?

When are we welcome to come and check it out?

Haven't ridden or driven the twisties in BJ.The roads here are either very good or very bad and it can change pretty quick. You can do 100km/h + no problems in fact all the car drivers will be doing that

and be up your date so for me riding a 200cc Chinese bike would be most unpleasant here. The highway up into Ille up the mountain pass(Tian shan) starts at elevation 500mtrs fast flowing corners up hill for 32 klms to an elevation of 2200mtrs.Last time I drove this it was race track perfect be a blast on a bike well not a 200cc Chinese bike.

I invited euphonius not you.Nah only kidding you can come too.I suggest not coming in winter way to cold for you Beijingers.Summer is peak tourist season plenty of pesky tourists from down south plus hot dam hot.Spring or Autumn is the time.Actually Autumn is probably best when all the leaves change color truly spectacular up in the mountains.

bigdamo - You got me interested in your backyard so I found this 3 year-old thread: My Backyard.
Good stuff. Can you post more? Would love to see some of your ride photos! Thanks.

I have not got a motorcycle here in Xinjiang nor have I had one so i have not posted any ride reports. Will I get one as my friend says "motorcycles find you sometimes" so I will wait.Everything is starting to thaw out now so see what happens but for 4/5 months of the year there is no bike riding here so pretty selfish of me to buy a bike.

    Welcome to the site.
Since you are working for Motorway, please say hello to my old friend and riding comrade Lv Fei
Does BJ have a real bike engineer / mechanic now? I hope so

    Cheers
