For ChinaV, Dongguan is scoring a "moderate" 87 Air Quality Index score tonight.

Hmmm... this sight shows 145, which feels about right... cough, cough, hack, wheeze.



I think we could reduce our score by half if the government would educate the peasants about agricultural burning. November through February is heavy duty burn time for the farmers, unfortunately they tend to throw all their toxic garbage in the fires.

Fly ash mostly from coal and also cement dust is involved and why they often halt construction. I noticed bikes in images covered in of milky residue.

I suppose that some told the Chinese you are lucky that you do not have all the regulations we have in other countries, people that love to hate, they know who they are and still till this day believe that government has no business forcing clean air standards?


The clean air act mandated the use of technology that cleaned up the air allot and likely prevented allot of incidences of cancer and also improved everyone’s quality of life.

I believe that they also cleaned up transportation and also stopped people from incinerating, but even though such great things happened they still have not found a way to educate the ignorant?

Air quality here in Shanghai is as bad today as I've ever seen it, in 10 years. In the past hour, the US Consulate particulate count pushed over 300, to 306, described as "hazardous." The government AQI index, which factors in PM2.5, PM10, SO2 and NO2, inched up to 284, described as "heavily polluted." These indices are higher than Beijing's, which stand today at 290 (US Embassy) and 197 (gov AQI).

Buildings I normally can see 1-2 km away from my apartment have disappeared from the gray cityscape. That's still better than a few days ago in Beijing, where visibility was put at 200m, and Changsha, where it was a preposterous 50m. Imagine not being able to see across the street for the smog!!! Shanghai today truly is "the big smoke" as TB-Racing is wont to call it.

I'm staying indoors today, and I'm feeling a strong twinge of envy for Motokai, who flew down to Sanya on Saturday. Today's government AQI for Sanya? It's 13.

Just back from a mountain crossing with sea-shore return ride back home.
Perhaps not a 13, but still perfectly ok.
