So the trip as a whole was a bit of an epic one, I averaged over 800 a day which is a new record for me and I doubt I'll get close to that in China ever again. The roads and long days made it possible but in the future I think I'll be seeking out more twisty routes. The yingang was fantastic once again, particularly when it became a submarine on that last day, I could've kissed her a few times when she started half underwater. I'm going to treat her to a new engine when I get her back to Shenzhen, yingang will hopefully have a fuel injected 350cc version which will bolt right it. There's nothing wrong with the current one apart from a worn gear selector so that'll probably get put in a project bike at some point in the future. The bike has now done 42,000 kms and is still going strong in all the important areas so I couldn't be happier really.

Those pics look great Barry, I was a bit disappointed the road didn't go closer to Lake Hulun and nearly took a 40 km detour to check it out but at that stage I'd pretty much had it with grasslands and simply couldn't be arsed.

    Nice report.

So how about those Russian border towns, not interesting enough to stay longer?

Any pictures of the submarine road, sounded like a great adventure.

    Hey,

Im glad you enjoyed the RR!

I've never stayed more than one night in a town on a bike trip, would probably only do so if a young lady was with me. The towns were pretty nice along the way particularly Xunke and Fuyuan but I'm not sure there'd be much to do there all day. I find most towns in China to have good restaurants and pleasant views but not enough to warrant a second night. But I am a bit of a push on type so maybe that's just me!

Unfortunately there aren't any photos of the epic and scary few hundred kilometres into Harbin. I took off my chest mounted video camera when I was repairing my chain in the morning and didn't put it back on again, looking back that was a very poor decision! I was really worried about getting stuck on that road overnight and didn't stop to take a photo either, isn't it always the way that when you're really in trouble you don't feel like stopping but those are the most interesting times. I won't be making the same mistake again, that video camera will be welded to my chest! I've just starting playing around with taking stills from the video and I think the quality is OK and you don't need to stop for ordinary photos of the road conditions,

Yeah stills from video camera's would also be good.

I'm interested in riding in Siberia also, but from the report it seems the conditions are almost similar to those in Dongbei.

When we met last year i couldn't quite understand the obsession with Golden Hans. Now i get it.

It is to beer what subway is to sandwiches. Subway sandwiches are appalling back home, but here in china they're the creme de la creme. No fucking sweet bread or weird meat powder or stillborn chicken eggs or shit like that.

In backarse china i have oft times agonised over the lack of cold beer or anything stronger that 2.5%. Those nights i would've raped my father for a Golden Hans, just like the first time i saw a subway shop after 6 months in china.

    Pure luxury like.

yeah, i've also been looking to that one, or Baikal Lake. Unfortunately there's damn little information about driving from China into Russia. But at least every year more and more. It seems possible to exit at Manzhouli as i've read on motorfans.
